Reality check: Colt Python 4" Blued price in CA

A 95% to 98% ("unfired" is the claim, there is a cylinder ring tho) Colt Python, 4" blued with the box/paperwork and the original Colt grips. What would you pay for this here in CA? Muzzle/bore/lockup are sweet, I tend to believe that it is in the unfired/barely fired category (safe queen). Other than the cylinder ring the bluing is in top notch shape.

There's a price attached I feel is a good deal, but I don't want to skew people's answers by giving it out. I'm interested in hearing what the pros here think it's worth and if I'm in the right ballpark - I tried Gunbroker but it's a bit hit & miss trying to go off their prices sometimes.

Truly unfired in California, $1900, maybe more. $1100-1200 is not uncommon with a particularly nice specimen and this one has all the goodies plus the claim of being a virgin. You might not have everyone willing to pay $1900 but plenty would.

Somebody posted one at turners for $750, it disappeared quickly. That's about half of what I'd expect.

ok thanks so far, I'm in the right ballpark. so assuming $1900 was the "average, going price of a 98%" like this specimen, at what price point would y'all consider it a good deal, and at what price would it be a *great* deal? Like...

$1900 - fair / average / normal
$1700 - good
$1500 - great
$1300 - buy immediately

(those are just random made up numbers to illustrate - looking for real ones) I wasn't looking for this revolver but I'm trying to decide if it's one of those things I'll kick myself in the tuckus for later if I don't swoop in on it.

I think a lot of the value may depend on the year as well. I could be wrong. $1200 or less sounds good to me. Then again, I'm poor...

Looks like this one with a few rounds down the barrel went for $1000.

$1900 with a turn ring sounds a little high to me. I'd say $1250 but I'm no expert just what I'd be willing to spend.

Pythons Galore!

I bought the one at turner's in chino, it is a 2.5 " blue in really good condition, it has some holster wear on the top strap. I paid 750.00 for the python, I also bought an 8" in superior condition from Ade's for 1200.00 a few months back. I now own 1 - 8' blue, 3 -6" blue, 3 - 4" blue and 2 - 2.5" blue. They are all in prisitine condition with the original wood grips.
Next month, I am considering selling one of the 4" and maybe a 6".
I'll be asking around $1200.00 for each.

How's the market for Cobras and King Cobras? Desirable? Or not nearly as much as the above listed Python?

The Cobra and King Cobra have nothing in common with the Python... or, in other words, the action is totally different, and that's what makes a Python desirable. Personally, I love Pythons, but have zero interest in Colt's other .357 DA wheelguns.

The Anaconda is less desirable for the same reason. The old S&W m29's are better guns, I think.

As for price, I have a blued 4 inch from 1978 that I bought recently, in box with manual, and it was NIB or almost NIB. I paid a hair over $800, and got a good deal.

Typically, something like that should go for 1100-1200 in CA. I sold my nickel-plated 4 inch Python (60's vintage with original stocks) for $1350 I believe.

If anyone is honestly willing to pay $1900 for a blued 4 inch Python, wow. I am down to one Python currently, and would consider going Python-less for that amount of money!

I still see King Cobras and especially diamondbacks going for insane pricing. I have seen Diamondbacks sell for over $1000! Ades did/does have some Pythons selling arond 1300. I passed a Python at around $500 this year, really beat and a painted on finish.

Scored mine (in the high 90% range, mostly holster wear).....for a little over $575.

Former CHP owner just wanted back what he paid for it. I happily obliged him.
