My first gen 1988 glock 17 has never had a problem yet, and is still my favorite glock of mine.

I'd go G17. It was my first handgun and I love the pistol. It's accurate and extremely reliable. I had 3 malfunctions in the first 500 rounds, and zero since.Comment

When you say the G17 seems to big, are you referring to the grip or the slide? There are aftermarket grip reductions that can be done where the grip of the G17 is cut down to the size of a G19 and uses G19 mags. You then have the shorter grip of the G19, which is good for carry while still retaining the sight radius of the G17. For an idea of what I'm referring to check out: http://www.bowietacticalconcepts.com...SG-400x275.jpg
If you are buying a gun for a plinker, don't bother with buying a .40cal and then 9mm barrels to drop in, just pick up the 9mm like you want.Comment
