    G17 vs. G19

Both feel the same for me. I'm going to get one for a plinker. G17 seems maybe a bit big for me, but the G19 has a smaller sight radius, so maybe less accurate? Both are trade offs I am willing to make.

I believe if you get a 19 you can put a longer slide on it - please correct me if I am mistaken.

If it is for plinking the 17. If you ever decide to CCW, then the 19 is pretty good for both but will be less accurate than the 17 because of the sight radius. Even then, when you do CCW it is the grip that is the hardest part to conceal if you go IWB.

ETA- If it was me, I'd go with the .40s&w models and then purchase aftermarket 9mm barrels.

It will "fit" but the dust cover is about 1/2" shorter on the 19 so it won't go all the way to the end of the slide.

The difference in barrel length is so minimal it will not make any difference in accuracy.

I havn't seen anyone put a g17 slide on a g19 I don't see why it wouldn't work.. mostly what I see is g17 owners getting grip reductions to make the frame the length of the g19 while retaining the features of the full size.

get what you are most comfortable with and shoot the best.

              G19

I love my G19. Good size and performance trade off.

G19 vs G17 really doesn't have much difference.

If you want a glock that is the best for accuracy, get the G34.

I don't own a glock, but have shot both models. I have also shot the G26, and couldn't stand my pinky finger hanging off the grip. Anyhow, IMO I would get the G 19, because the extra rounds that the 17 holds is a moot point in CA. But then again, I probably wouldn't purchase a 9mm (unless it was a subcompact), because the debate between more stopping power vs. more rounds is also moot in CA.

I have G17, G19 and G26. Of course G17 is the range favorite and it also pulls a double duty as the nightstand gun (with X200B and CT laser grip). The G19 performs almost as good at the range, but is much better for CCW. Now that I have all 9mm Glocks (except for G34), I think it would've been a better idea to get the 40S&W (G22, G23, G27) or even 357SIG(G31, G32, G33) counterparts. You can always convert down to 9mm by buying an aftermarket conversion barrel, but you can't convert up without spending big bucks on the full slide setup. Changing calibers between 40S&W and 357SIG only requires a 5-second barrel change (you use the same mags). Just keep it in mind when you make your decision. If you think you will ever want to shoot bigger caliber, buy it now and convert down to 9mm.

Get the 19. I think it looks better, they shoot just fine... I haven't shot the 17, but the 19 and 26 are similar in accuracy so i would think the same goes for the 17. If you need something more accurate, look at a different gun.

Ditch the 9mm and go for the .40S&W for some adventure:

You can have the g17 grip cut down to g19 size. I dont buy into the caliber converision, rember specilization is important. (unless its .40-.357, thats cool but I just dont believe itl be Glock reliable from .40 to 9, IMO)

I own a G19 and like it very much. Since I don't CCW, I think I would have better off with the G17 because I like the extra length in grip, it is more comfortable for me. I like the 19 enough to keep it, though, and just pick up a 17 when funds permit.

At a shooting small class I recently attended there were at least 4 Glocks. My 19, 1 G22, 1 unknown to me, and a G35 with an aftemarket barrel for a caliber conversion. That was the only Glock to have malfunctions, and it had quite a bit. I admit, I don't know anything else about that gun or the shooter so it is possible that the aftermarket barrel was not the problem. 9mm is a fine round for defense purposes (just get some good hollow points) and is much cheaper for practice/plinking than 40 S&W or 357 SiG.

The answer to your question is, get whichever one feels better to you, you can't go wrong with either.

Sorry to let you know, A G17 slide will NOT work on a G19 frame. I sure wish it would though, would be a pretty cool looking rig! Ive got the G17L and wish I could put it on a G19 frame! Like one of the other guys mentioned, it will go as far back as the dust cover, but if you went farther back, it basically locks up on the frame and is a PITA to remove. Dont try it because you risk bending/breaking parts trying to seperate them.

As far as which model to get, well that is all a matter of preference. The 17 is only about 1/2" shorter on the slide and 1/2" smaller heighthwise on the grip. A good lesson I always go with is to make sure the gun fits your hand. My G17 has over 20k rounds downrange on it, and hasnt had any problems yet. My only mods have been a Hogue gripall, a extended slide release, and a 3.5 trigger bar.

My first pistol was a 2nd gen G19, it was a death ray in my hands. I see it, it dies. Although it CCWed well, the shorter grip always bothered me because of my pinky hanging off, and I thought the G19 looked too small in a belt or drop leg holster(My love affair with handguns started with Han Solo, Battlestar Galatica Blasters and 1911s when I was a wee lad.). I regrettably sold it when I needed cash, have since replaced it with a 3rd gen G17. Although, I'm out of practice and need to go to the range often to be confident with my G17, I don't miss my G19 at all. The G17 can be CCWed, but I'd get a G26 before I'd get a G19 now.

Plus, I've heard of issues with the G19 barrel redesign not playing nice with 10 round mags.
