I had a SA Micro .45, it went back to SA three times. They kept it the last time and destroyed it. Enough said!

The Colt Defender is not a small gun.

Every person (3) I have known with a Colt Defender has had nothing but issues.

Just buy a Glock 36 if you're looking for a small single-stack .45ACP. It has no soul, but carry guns aren't supposed to have soul.

The Glock 36 is only small in comparison to other midsized Glocks.

Is the goal here a small pistol or a light one?

im gonna give the colt a try. i never shot a .45 in that small a frame so i'll have to see if my hands can take it. if its too harsh for me i'll sell it and stick with a commander size 1911.

i'm going to vegas in a couple weeks and im gonna take the class to get the ccw in nevada. so at least i can use it to qualify and if i sell it, i'll still have it on my card so i can get any other similar gun in the future and be covered.

i already have a compact glock to qualify with. i have a couple glocks but im not crazy about them. i much prefer a 1911. guess i'll have to see how i like it in a smaller package.

went to DROS the defender today and i think i know why people have so many FTF issues with them. the feedramp is separate from the barrel throat and Colt didnt even make an attempt to blend the two. there's actually a 'step' you can feel with your finger from the feedramp to the throat of the barrel. nothing a dremel tool cant take care of, but i'd be surprised if it runs problem free out of the box the way it is.

That “step” is supposed to be there. Do not Dremel it away!

Above is how it should look.

The Defender I had was a very good piece. I shot about 8k rounds through it and it was quite reliable. I carried it alot but after a while just realized that I felt more confident carrying my all stainless Colt OACP. That extra half inch and the weight must make a more substantial gun.
I ended up selling the Defender because I just got over it. Sold a Kimber Ultra Carry II as well, but that one cracked the frame at 3k rounds and once they replaced it I sold the gun.
No experience wit the SA but I have a buddy who loves his. I've never seen him shoot it though.

thanks for the heads up. i'll run a bunch of different ammo through it before i do anything to it. if theres no malfunctions i wont touch it. if there are, wouldn't it be wise to at least polish out the throat of the barrel?

im not dealing with Colt CS. those people suck. i'd rather do whatever it is myself or pay one of my gunsmith buddys to do it.

The example I shared has been nicely polished, as you can see.

FYI, your poll title shows Defender, but the choice in the poll is Commander.

I have the Defender and never have had any FTF issues with it. The one issue I did have is that it would throw brass straight back into my forehead. I ended up up taking it to a 'smith who milled the bottom of the ejection port down a bit and now the brass go to the side and not into my head.

I agree with was asme says re: the G36.

It's going to have some kick being that small.
