Then there's walmart (seriously, just because you miss them doesn't mean they don't have them), turner's, Ammo bros. There's the private sellers here on calguns, various reload companies, and GUNSHOWS. Ammo guys at gunshows will get you good plinking reloads with non-steel rounds for 8$ per 50, or 10 per 50 for something slightly better.

What are the Big 5 9mm prices? I was actually thinking about going down to one with this coupon to pick up a few boxes of 9mm.

Even with the coupon, you're better off going to walmart, or to turner's. Turner's just got a new line of ammo in plastic ammo cans, decent prices from what I saw.

Big5's coupon is only good if the item is already on sale, and the coupon brings it down to a "normal" price.

I stopped by Big 5 today. Their ammo prices are crazy and my Wal-Mart is pretty much always stocked.

Their "sale" price for a 250 round box of 9mm was $86. No thanks.

So save more cash, buy in bulk and save on overall cost then. Not everyone seems to buy only 1-2 boxes of ammo at a time like you prefer to apparently(to be honest, I wouldn't even call 100 rounds of 9mm worth a trip to the range).

The fact is, that cost per round big5 prices kind of suck. Not on everything, but for the majority of the ammo they sell it's bad. Even with shipping(not to mention the sales tax you're paying at big5), it's pretty easy to save money. Plus you also need to consider just how "crazy" some of the people on this forum get about ammo purchases. You might consider 500 rounds(which isn't a whole lot IMO) to be some massive arsenal and more than you'd shoot in a year or something(it's not like ammo has an expiration date, just keep it clean and dry). But there are some calgunners who will order 5,000 rounds of 9mm at a time.

We aren't talking about buying your mayo by the gallon at costco the save a buck. When you can get more ammo at a lower price, just wait a bit longer to spend more and pay less per round. Unless you're allergic to saving money, it shouldn't be an issue.

Big 5 honored the coupon on the way home. Now I have to wait 10 days to pick up a Mini-14 .223 S/S. Price before tax + DROS was $692. Reasonable for California.

Umm... it's still pretty simple. Don't go to the range on your bimonthly trip or whatever, save the cash and get more ammo instead.

Think about it this way. If all you have to go to the range every 60 days is $30 for ammo, don't go. Skip a couple of trips till you've got $90, buy more ammo for your money, then to go the range. Now because your next few range trips are already paid for, keep setting that cash aside and buy $90 worth at once the next time you need ammo.

We aren't talking about going without eating just so you can afford to buy food from costco and get more for your money. If you can still afford going to the range at all, then you can afford to skip a couple of trips and get more for your money.

Mercy1138. It's fine if you or someone likes to save and buy in bulk or if 100 rds. Is not a range trip for some it is. To each his own. Like someone said some live paycheck to paycheck or don't shoot much. And statement that online ammo is not cheaper still stands. Unless you will be spending at least $100. So for 6 to 7 boxes which is 350 rds. Still cheaper at big 5 and Walmart kills all.
