Shooting the DE is definitely fun, but the 44 mag seems to always jam up. I read up a bit on it, and it seems to be almost all 44 DEPs have this quirk, unless you get the ramps polished . Anyone know a professional for feed ramp polishing in the Bay Area? I would do it myself but, I don't want to mistakenly ruin this thing.Comment

Two reasons to get a desert eagle
There are two reasons to get a Desert Eagle:-
(1) It is very accurate -- easily as accurate as the most accurate custom 1911 (no small feat). The reason is quite simple it is a stationary barrel gun. 80% of the reason custom 1911s are much more accurate that the garden variety is how tight the frame-to-slide and barrel-to-bushing fits are. This allow the barrel to go back into battery with the near identical alignment with every shot. Well, the Desert Eagle (and a few other handguns like the HK P7 or P9) does not need such fitting accuracy to do this; their barrels don't move at all when the gun is fired. What's more, on the Desert Eagle, the front sight is actually on the barrel itself, so there is zero play at all in front sight to barrel alignment either. And, if you use an optical sight on the Desert Eagle it sits stationary on a stationary barrel. A semi-auto handgun does not get any more inherently accurate than that.
(2) If you plan on shooting a very powerful cartridge -- read 44 Magnum, 454 Casull, 50AE, etc -- in a handgun. A Desert Eagle is a lot more comfortable to shoot than a Revolver of the same chambering. With the Desert Eagle, the reciprocating action of the slide eats up a considerable chunk of the recoil.
Now, yes, 44 Magnum ammo is expensive. And if that is a concern for you you shouldn't get a gun chambered in it. But a 44 Magnum round fired from a desert eagle is not any more or less expensive than the same round launched from a S&W 629 revolver. Besides, if ammo cost really bugs you the solution is not to avoid this gun or that, or this caliber or that, it is to reload. When you reload, 44 Mag is not going to 2~3x as much as 9mm. It won't because the bullets are not that much more, the primers won't either, the casings are reused. You do use more powder, but you spend less on powder than all the other things. A 44 Mag, in any case, uses less powder than a 223 anyway -- one of the least capacious of popular rifle calibers. So, if you want, you can think of it as a really cheap to load for rifle round.Comment

One consideration for DE caliber: .357 and .44 are rimmed cartridges used primarily in revolvers. The body of the case is narrower than the base, hence they headspace on the front of the cylinder. However, this extra rim is a problem in magazine-fed handguns such as DE since the rims prevent cartridges from laying flat on each other. You will see similar issue with 22LR and 17HRM magazine-fed rifles, where the manual shows how to load cartridges such that the rim doesn't impede the feeding.
The 50AE is rebated rim cartridge with the same size base as the .44, but the body of the case is "fatter" to match the base. This is a caliber developed specifically for magazine-fed firearms as cartridges can lay flat next to each other in the magazine. In this respect, 50 AE is a better and more natural choice for DE.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

Do you mean the full slotted rail on top of the barrel? Magnum research only makes that style barrel now. You'd have to get a used one if you want the two sloted barrel.Comment

Yeah I like the picatinny rail on DE
Didn't know that's all they make now
Has a more aggressive bada** lookComment

EBR is the best path to go..Most places either want too much money, wont touch it, or want to put you on a waiting list. Those guys are my pick for southern Cali. The DE44 or 50ae isnt a handgun meant for someone who wants that ONE primary weapon. Its something like my AR15 pistol.. You just want it because it looks cool..get some attention at the range then throw it in the closet or safe (whatever u prefer)for another couple of months. Believe it or not out of all my rifles, handguns, shotguns, MPAs..I ALWAYS find myself at the range with my G27..the smallest out of all of them but the funniest to shoot and the most important one since when Im out of state , I carry as my CCW. I plan on buying a DE soon and trust me, it will not see the light of day that much. I look at it as an investment that if I ever get tired of it, I can sell it at or near the price I bought it for. Very few DE out there with more than 500 rds through it...no matter how old the gunComment

A few guys told me to hit up EBR... Funny part is I emailed him but didn't get Back a response yet..... Maybe my email didn't go thru or something.... But he did post here guess he didn't get my email..tried to call but there closed today....but yeah I'm debating on a polish chrome nice and shiny or the titanium gold.... Scared gold mite be too much but if any gun can pass it off it would be the DE.... I've looked everywhere online and notice all places are sold out so I'm guessing a long wait periodComment
