Weapons lights and Reliabilty

I want to put it on my G17 or M9A1. The guns I saw at numerous ranges were Glocks and M&P and a 2022. Not sure on the calibers.

I have my favorite light (TLR-1) on my Beretta 92F...

No issues, no problems after approx. 2000 rds.

I have a Viridian X5L laser/light combo on a 9mm XD Service and its seen around 3000-3500 rounds with it attached and no problems.

My G17 and 21SF are not so picky and run fine so far with both.

This kind of boggles my mind... is there mechanical reason this would happen?

So it should be ok on Beretta M9A1?

My TLR-1s never leaves my 92A1. I have put over 5000 rounds through it and never had an issue. I love the balance of the gun with the light mounted on it.

As for the mechanical reason, the best explanation I've seen is that the extra weight, out there on the front of the frame, causes the polymer frame to torque or bend a bit under the recoil impulse. It doesn't seem to happen with metal frames, and seems particular to certain Glocks and, as noted, at least one 2022. It also seems more prevalent in .40s than 9s.

At first blush, it really is a WTH? I keep a light on my HD weapon, but tend to take it off at the range, just to keep it clean. I've re-thought that . . . .

I have a TLR-1 on my G17 and it works fine, never had a malfunction. However I'm not a huge fan of shooting with it because of the added weight in the front. I shoot a lot better with it off but I train with it because I use it as my HD weapon

Both mounted a with SF X300

Thousands of rounds down range and no problems with the light or the weapons.

I've shot most of my guns with a TLR-3 mounted and never had any issues except for the fact that carbon buildup is difficult to clean off the lens cap. However some people had problems with the plastic rail mount on their TLR-3 breaking, but Streamlight took good care of them. For everyday use, the TLR-1 may be better suited with its full metal construction.

If price is no issue, I'd get the Surefire x300 and call it a day. If you're on a budget, the TLR-1s is a very solid light that also has a lifetime warranty.
