    Railed Doublestar project...done...

It's had work done to it. But, I wanted a fighting gun. I have plenty of 1911's, but this was my first railed 1911, a personal requirement of mine moving forward (a light rail that is).

A little story behind this gun. Im my research for a railed 1911, I talked to plenty of people, checked many manufacturers. It came down to a few:

    *SA MC Operator
    *SA Professional
    *Series I Kimber Warrior
*Wilson CQB Operator with a light rail
    *Doublestar Railed 1911

I spoke to my Smith about it, a man of vast experience, who has crafted many 1911's in his day. All of the 1911's on that list are good he stated but your getting a lot of gun from DS for the money. Plus, a friend (another JMB fan) said he laid his paws on the blaster at SHOT and was impressed.

-The slide is Caspian and good to go.
-The frame is forged and made in house.

So, I dropped $1,000 on the gun (out the door) and handed it to my Smith. He stated that he did NOT like the way the barrel lugs and slide grooves were fitted on the gun and he called DS. They were 100% on board with their warranty (lifetime, nice). I sent the entire pistol in and they sent it back with a brand new barrel and slide. My smith then made sure all was GTG and moved forward with his personal modifications as follows:

    *Luggs properly fit/ Good lockup
    *Medium solid trigger + fit
    *Tactical Hook rear sight
    *Tritium front sight
    *New plunger tube
    *Flare ejection port
    *Weld up safety/ special
*Set timing and weld up + Bushing
    *Reliability job
    *Refinish entire gun
*New ejector + Machine slide + install
    *New extractor + fit

1200+ rounds in a Costa Ludus handgun class...it RUNS. Dead on @ 25 yrds. Be advised that I run my guns HARD in training...

Very very nice! Congrats! I intend to put a couple of my semi-custom 1911s to the test with Costa Ludus as well...We'll see if they hold up and live up to their reputation (and price).

The only way to find out if it's RELIABLE and functional, is to run it hard...

Came with the blaster. Simonich Gunner grips I think. All DS guns come from the factory with these...

how do you like the simonichs? they look like thin profile, or at least thinner than "standard" width grips.

I'm on the fence between VZ simonichs and black double diamonds, i'm currently running colt non-branded rosewood grips on my baer TRS and looking for some variety.

Be advised that this is a "fighting, hard use" gun. I have it for training and functionality versus asthetics.

Wood does not hold up under: wet conditions, dust, dirt, snow, etc...

8 - 12,000 rounds minimum this year through this gun alone, let alone the others. None have wood on them.

Looks great! I'm glad to see someone putting some stress on their gun Did your ejection port come rounded on the front end, or did the smith do it? That's a little unusual for most 1911s. Throw up some more pictures!

I will post more from different angles.

Sounds like you got yourself a real shooter. Once you've shot a 1911 worked over by a GOOD smith...its hard to like anything else. Thanks for posting this up, I will be looking into this brand more.
