SA Loaded vs. Range Officer

I am looking to finally add a 1911 to my collection. I originally settled on the Range Officer because of its guaranteed NM serial numbers, nice standard upgrades and its minimalistic styling. The only thing I would change right away are the sights. However, it isn't on the CA list and they are pretty hard to find in stock. I have bought through SSE before, but it sounds like the 1911 SSE conversion kits have a log jam right now and it adds expense to the process.

So, in my quest to find and alternative I found that the SA Parkerized Loaded model is close in price and CA legal, obviously meaning that the process to get it would be easier. Plus, I like the sights that come on the parkerized loaded and it is still a great looking gun.

Basically I just wanted some feedback on the RO vs. Loaded and what the thoughts were from some of the folks on here who own either, or both, guns.

If you're going to change the sights on the RO, you might as well be looking at the Mil Spec. It's on the list so no SSE. Either way, you can't go wrong.

If you get the loaded, look for an NM one. I've handled both and have owned an NM Loaded in the past and also seen various pics and the NM ones just seem to be finished and fitted better.

I've heard from several stores that the only reason SA starting making some Mil-Spec/Loaded model guns with NM frames was because they have been having a real hard time getting the the N frames from Brazil. Even though I know that NM frames at least the raw forgings are also from Brazil as well.

Lots of upgrades on the RO that you don't get with the Mil Spec...In addition to the sights.

Of course you can start with a Mil Spec, they both have the no front cocking serrations look...but you will be spending some $ to get to the RO level of features.

Milspec is really nice, but if the RO is in your budget then why not?

Yep, and unless you're planning to build a full custom from it later, you'll get way more for your dough with the Loaded. That said, the RO is very nice and the gun I would choose in the OP's situation. I have grown to love the look without front cocking serrations!

I don't plan on going full custom on it, just want a reasonably priced 1911 that will be reliable and provide years of enjoyment. Bang for the buck is a good thing.

So back to the basic question, if the choice was between an RO w/SSE or a Loaded, what is the recommendation?

Some on here have said "just get the Mil Spec" but the RO has at least the following over the Mil Spec:

NM serial # (*with Mil Spec, maybe NM maybe N)
Target sights (discussed above)
Lightweight Trigger
Flat checkered MSH
Fitted Beavertail Grip Safety
Extra slide to frame fitting work
Extra barrel/bushing fitting work
Skeletonized/commander lightweight hammer

VS. the "loaded" it's closer feature wise...the RO still wins in by book as its got the features I want with the look I want.

Now...the RO vs. a Loaded Long Slide...then I would be stumped.

Ya except you'll need to be prepared to wait, I have had money down on a RO since November. I'm not sure they have seen a single one since before then.
