    Taking a Defensive Handgun Course

I want to take a defensive handgun training course.

    1) Has anyone had experience with Front Sight? What about any other courses? Recommendations/advice?

    2) Are training certificates like these legitimate? Are these courses really that inexpensive, that you can buy one of these certificates on eBay and register in one of these four-day courses with them?

    Thanks!

I can't tell you the experience with them yet, since I am going in April
but I got my 4-days handgun certificated mailed directly from them with 150, so yes, it could be very cheap if you know someone who is a member or able to get it during discount period.

My wife and I just finished a class with Wes Lagomarsino of LFI Guns. I can't speak highly enough. You will improve, and also enjoy the course! My wife was one of two ladies in the class, and both showed a marked improvement by course end. I mention that because she was apprehensive about taking a class with others. Wes was outstanding with both the advanced students, and the female newbs.

Okay, it sounds like most people who have been to Front Sight agree it's been a worthwhile experience. What about the certificates being sold on eBay? Are they legitimate? Is it legitimate for me to buy one of them for literally 95% off the price of a 4-day course that they advertise on the website and elsewhere ($2000 vs ~$100 for the certificates online).

Certificate, shmertificate. What is important is that you learn something or not.

If some bad guy shows up at your doorstep, they don't want to see your shmertificate.

Ugh, OK, I see the certificate is a coupon for doing the course, not a "course completion certificate". Sorry!

I take back my "shmertificate" comment! LOL

Hey, if you are near Reeds, they do a defensive course with Loius Awerbuck as the instructor. It's like $300 so I've been sort of not-doing it, because ... $300. But it might actually be a bargain to learn from a guy like Awerbuck.

Yup, coupons for taking the course. They seem to go for ~$100 online, which occurs to me as extremely cheap. And I get an excuse to fly to Nevada.

I'd rather go with LMS Defense, Alpha Training, Nielson Training Associates, Haley Strategic, Magpul etc...

                          Can't say about Front Sight
except I know and have known people who have instructed for them...and a friend's father in law bought him a lifetime thingee from FS...and he is a buddy and the rangemaster from my old dept...and he rolls his eyes a bit but says he always learns something about himself...so that's workable I suppose...

personally... I'll be back at: http://thunderranchinc.com/home/index.html

again this summer...makes like 6 trips...and I am always challenged about something...maybe just the basics...but the basics is what I always return to....

teaching a defensive handgun class again in the morning...it's back to basics again...

I know nothing about Front Sight however a few friends are going there in a month or so.
I went to ITTS in Los Angeles and have benefited greatly.
