    C&R Question

Hello everyone, newbie handgun owner here.

So, I'm looking into getting my first handgun. I really like a p-64 Polish that classic arms has for sale.

My question is do I half to have a C&R licence to get this gun sense it's C&R eligible or can I just go through a FFL dealer and pick it up there? The dealer that I was planning on going through has, what I believe, a type 1 FFL Dealer licence. My brother-in-law ordered a 91/30 Mosin Nagant from Classic Arms to this dealer once before so I know they will do business with the site.
I'm hoping I don't half to get the C&R licence because I don't see myself getting a lot of milsurp handguns and don't really feel that it would justify for the one purchase.

    Thanks.

    -J

Any C&R handgun sold in state (including transfers) must go through an 01 FFL. You don't need a C&R license for that. The only time a C&R license helps on handguns is if YOU go out of state, purchase the handgun, and bring it back.

Ok so, the fact that I believe Classic Arms is based in North Carolina doesn't cause a problem?

Nope. They will have to ship it to an FFL in CA.

I haven't, but I've read that some people find it a bit uncomfortable to shoot.

I have one and love it. For about 40 rounds and then I'm done with it.

It is a very sold gun and you should like. Just don't plan on shooting it all day long.
                Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

C&R status avoids the handgun roster list, C&R handguns are exempt from the list.

Originally that's what I thought. A buddy of mine basically was under the impression that you'd need a C&R licence in order to take advantage of that status.

That's what I figured. This is just a intro to handgun ownership, plinking/practice, and home defense. My only other gun that I own currently is a type 53 Mosin Nagant. (Yeah, I'm a newbie to gun ownership. )

For what you're wanting this for I would spend a little more money and get the CZ-82 from J&G Sales. They have a CA friendly version for about $230. It too is chambered in 9X18 Makarov but is much easier to shoot. I have one of those too and like it more than the P-64.

I have a P-64 and it can be a bit snappy in recoil. If you have a limited budget get a hi-point in 9mm luger or a 22lr handgun.
