    slight sig p226 issue

this might be a non-issue. But when my slide racks back on the last round and I slam in a new fresh mag, the slide automatically releases to chamber a round.

It happens all the time when I firmly insert a mag and I make sure to keep my thumbs away from the slide release.

should I send it back to sig?

Check the Slide Stop Release and Spring assembly. Might not be enough force exerted to keep it staying open.

Otherwise, really neat feature to have if you had hoards and hoards of paper targets coming after ya'.

My P226 did the same thing numerous times during break in but hasn't since. How new is it?

I had the same problem with my P229 only when seating fully loaded magazines. The problem went away after a few months and a lot of rounds.

Does it still happen if you insert a partially loaded mag?

I don't think there is an official name for what you're describing, but it has been called "slam rack" or "bump reload" (I think that's what Magpul calls it). Here is a thread with more info.

Many handguns do this, and it is not considered a flaw/defect.

I've experienced it happening once in awhile with just about every pistol I've shot. All the time? No, that's not normal. If it were me, I would call Sig. I'd like to release my own slide and I don't buy into it will go away after the gun is broken in. Gun should run out of the box and 1000 and 10,000 and 20,000 etc rounds later. If not, needs to be repaired.

The magazines that came with my P226 do that, the Mec-Gar ones I bought afterwards do not. Try a Mec-Gar magazine to see if it still happens. The Sig magazines required quite a bit of force to do it, and usually only happens for me when you are moving the pistol at the same time. Oddly enough, it only happens for live ammo and not snap caps.

This can be a "feature" but you definitely shouldn't rely on it, and don't do it to the same round repeatedly.

what caliber is your sig? 9mm or 40sw??

what type of mags are you using? mecgar? sig factory? steel or blued mags?

My sig p226 40sw, would do what you are describing. When the slide locks back after the last round, and i slammed a mag (only does it with the sig factory blue mags), a round will be loaded, and the slide comes forward. I have been able to replicate this almost every single time, BUT only with the blued magazines. I've probably fired atleast 700 rounds, probably closer to 1k.

That being said, like another poster has said, i would not call this a defect of any kind. I'd even go as far as to say it's a "cool" feature, that in any unlikely event would possibly be beneficial. I know i'm not necessarily presenting a solution to you problem, but rather letting you know that you are not alone! haha

                      ps. i haven't shot it in a while, now i'm curious...lol

All my Sigs and Glocks do this. Do you shoot any USPSA or IDPA? You will find this is a huge plus in reloading under time.

If you want to avoid this just seat the mag a little easier and it will not close.

It happens to me often, regardless of what pistol I use. When I reload from slidelock, I am usually slamming the magazine in with a lot of force. If the slide release gets bumped, I don't bother with hitting the slide release and I get back on target.
