I'm a Walther fan but I heard the P22 isn't very reliable and the build quality is really low. I don't know if its been improved with the newest version or not though.

I own one and have put about 500 rounds through with no failures, check out rimfirecentral.com. They definitely are people out here with issues.

My best friend bought one. I was thinking about it a lot, but he bought it first, so I bought a G19. It's really fun and cheap to shoot. The only complaint is that it wants specific ammo. I brought my own "cheap" ammo to try it out to see if the rumors were true and they were. I had some rounds fail to feed. The round before would shoot fine, it ejected, just didn't feed the new round. It happened I think twice in about 150 rounds. Shooting the ammo it's supposed to run, it was flawless. But we're at the range plinking, no big deal.

That's exactly how I feel. I still might get one later. But I still have a few days left for my DROS to go through. So I can't get anything for a month anyways. But not planning on getting anything else that soon. But let a few more people chime in. It's really a fun plinker.

I learned to shoot with a P22. It was a fun plinker and was very reliable with high velocity .22lr (such as CCI Mini-Mags).

Build quality was okay (as in don't expect it to have the fit and finish of a P99). The Sig Mosquito seems to be better built than the P22.

My brother has a P22, and I have a Sig Mosquito. Mine seems to be a little pickier on ammo. They are both a blast to shoot.

I have one. Shot 500rnds of the CCI mini mags to break it in. After that I bought the CCI blazer bulk and haven't had a problem. Clean the gun after every range trip. Mine shoots great and I also have 5 mags if that matters. Recently bought 5000rnds for $164. I can shoot this all day and not feel it in my wallet. I like it.

When the Walther P22 came out, it had magazine issues but was resolved. It also requires high velocity ammo to cycle properly. It clearly states that in the instruction manual. My P22 has been flawless so far.

I've had one since it first came out. Even had to send it back to "Walther" one year to get the muzzle nut permanently fixed because it has a threaded barrel, and the DOJ made a stink about it. Got probably close to 2000 rounds through mine. It's very reliable with Remington yellow box. Not as reliable with anything that's not high velocity stuff. I like mine a lot, and have no plan of getting rid of it anytime soon. One complaint is that the finish is not very durable, and mine shows a good amount of wear. Other than that, it's a great gun, especially for new shooters. When I take someone to the range that has never shot before, I usually give them the P22 first.

It is very ammo picky - make sure you try a bunch of different types and then only buy that type to shoot in it. I bought mine quite a long time ago, its one of the early ones that had to be sent back to have the barrel thread cover permanently fixed in place.

I really want to like it but overall I just don't (vague trigger, ammo pickiness, accuracy) and will likely get around to selling it. Once you get used to the accuracy of a Ruger Mk II with the bull barrel and its ability to shoot any type of .22 ammo you or your friends may have in the range box that trip, the P22 becomes not a fun range toy anymore.

I have not seen the new Ruger .22 that looks like a P22 copy but maybe give that a look too.

I have a P22 that I have about 300 rounds through. It has functioned flawlessly so far - all with cheap Federal bulk. It's lots of fun and very light.

Mine broke a firing pin last December after approx. 3000rds through it.
Easy to replace and S&W sent parts out fairly quick...at my expense.
P22 Bible download has good info if you're into repairing/upgrading it.
