    question about the M&P trigger

Not sure if this question has been asked 100 times or 1,000 times but here it goes.

How does the trigger on the 5" m&p pro series compare to a m&p with the APEX competition trigger?

i'm selling my XDm and using the funds to buy another m&p but wanted to know if it's worth buying.
Should I just upgrade the trigger on my full size m&p and buy something else?

Pro Series trigger is marginally better than a standard M&P. And a gun with even some (and not all) Apex parts will outshine any stock M&P Pro Series. I own a M&P9 Pro btw.

really? I keep reading that the pro series trigger is close to being a single action trigger. does yours have the apex kit?

It's fairly straightforward. Randy has a video on his website detailing exactly how to install the Apex trigger kit on the Apex website. I managed to do it in about 1 hour with absolutely no prior gunsmithing experience whatsoever. The only tricky part is you may or may not have to adjust the loop at the back of the trigger bar, the part that slides under the sear, by opening the loop up or closing it down to make sure it engages the sear properly. Don't worry, Randy explains exactly how to do so in the same video. The Apex kit makes the trigger feel completely different. Trigger travel and reset are super short and crisp.

It may be close, but Apex's FSS kit is even closer.

Man, now I'm thinking if I should just upgrade my full size m&p. Cheaper than paying $800 for the pro series.

You say that you're getting another M&P. Does your current M&P have a bad trigger? I've heard endless stories of the heavy pull and gritty break on the M&P's, but my FS 40 had a little grittiness early on and now it has absolutely none and it also has a crisp 4.3 pound break which is almost the same as my 1911. There's still lots of take up, but it comes to a very noticeable stop, then 4 pounds later, bang.

I think you ought to wait until you get your M&P before you order the Apex kit. I've also heard that toward the end of last year, the triggers were getting better on the M&P's. I got mine in June and it was QC tested in Feb '11.

If your unmodified fs 40 has a pull that low after breaking in then there's a problem, it shouldn't drop 2 pounds from new to break in. Are you sure it doesn't have a pro sear?

Just got my first M&P and was pleasently surprised with the trigger. There is the take up issue but its not that bad, has a clean brake at 5.13 lbs according to my Lyman guage and a little grit but only 300 rounds fired so far so it should smooth out the more I shoot it. I too wonder about improved triggers in newer M&Ps.

Mine is a VTAC 40. test fired in October 2011. As far as I know the VTAC trigger is no different then a standard M&P. Can anyone tell me how to I.D. the PRO sear from the standard sear. Apex my still be in my future, never could leave well enough alone.

Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

The VTAC uses the regular sear.
