Disappointed with Wild Sports in Orangevale

Disappointed with Wild Sports in Orangevale.

I went there to purchase a pistol and they changed the interpretation
of what ID is valid or invalid based on their whim.
I've purchased 4 pistols in the past 3 months with no problems
with other Sacramento and Elk Grove FFL Dealers.

Wild Sports would not accept my CDL with the attached DMV DL43
Change of Address Card as acceptable proof of residence,
even though I also supplied my current Utility Bills that also showed
    my current address.

They said I had to show as a option a Hunting License or a
Fishing License, since they would not accept my DMV CDL/DL43
That other FFL dealers had accepted.
If I did not have one, they said I could purchase one from them
to meet there requirements before I could buy their handgun.

What a bunch of jerks! They just lost a regular weekly customer.
    In the past I bought 2 357's a 9mm a shotgun and a Uzi Mdl B
from them. Their service was great in the 80's & 90's.
    Now they just suck.

What type of experiences have the Forum members experienced with Wild Sports in Orangevale?

    Same experience

I had the exact same experience there - they wouldn't accept my driver's license (old address) with a current utility bill (new address) as proof of residence, but they would accept a hunting license with my new address on it, which they kindly offered to sell me. The kicker is that acceptable proof of residence for acquiring a hunting license is a utility bill. They just wanted to squeeze me for some cash and/or hassle me.

No more money for WildSports from me.

      A little different

Wild Sports is so big that they are not going to take any chances.
I have purchased three guns from them with no hassle what so ever. Then again I made sure what was required by them before hand and did just that.

I don't much like Wild Sports as I've had several very annoying experiences there. Customer service has been horrible over the last five years I've been going there. They also pass along a lot of very wrong info to customers that I overhear just about every time I'm in there and a customer asks a question.

I've bought a few guns from them in the past and have found that they do offer up some good deals on occasion. Do I go there for questions or customer service-NO. I'd buy a lot more guns from them if they'd clean up their act a little but the management is the biggest problem and that's where the changes need to start.

If your ID had the old address, and you didn't have the DMV change of address supplement card, I could see them saying no. To my knowledge, addresses have to match between ID (either original card or change of address supplement) & Secondary Proof of Residency.

I DROS'd at least one handgun with a change of address supplement card & a utility bill with no problems. These guys are either misinformed or just stupid.

...then again, maybe my dealer was doing it wrong!

Was this the bald guy at the handgun counter?

I supplied Wild Sports with my CDL and the DMV DL43(change of address supplement card) & a my PG&E & SMUD utility bills and also my CHP Retired ID Card. They would not accept my CDL with supplement Change of address card as proof of my residency.

I just bought a gun at WS Thursday, my DL shows an old address, but I had my car registration with the current address. They put a piece of tape on the back of my DL wrote in the new address and sold me a gun. It was the kind of dorky older guy who's been there forever, and an old guy (who used to be a cop?).

Maybe current car registration > DMV DL43(change of address supplement card) & utility bills?

They did tell me having a safe doesn't exempt me from buying a lock when buying a handgun, but the gun had one so...

I haven't bought any guns for a while from there, but of the ones that I did buy, I used a cable bill for a couple, and a car registration for the other. No issues.

Keep in mind though that I think their customer service sucks ***, and their prices on somethings are just laughably high. But as stated here, you can find a good deal every now and then.

I have not stepped foot into Wild Sports for the last two years because of their horrible customer service. They have some great deals, but I will not hand over a dime to them.

I just had the same problem. The guy said that if I wanted to buy a gun that day, with all the id I could possibly provide, I had to still buy a hunting or fishing license to prove residency. I felt I was being extorted, so I went elsewhere.

Ended up probably paying more, but I felt much better giving my $ to someone else.

                        I felt the same way.

The problem is the owner, not the floor level managers. The managers have no descretion.

Then the managers are just clerks and the owner is the management. My statement stands, the management is the problem.

That's extortion! I would report them to the DOJ.
Being caution is one thing, but taking advantage of customers should put them out of business.
