Not ideal I know, but we are both in LONNNNNG term relationships, so the SO's not having a key is a non-runner, the neighbor is just a belt and breaches. The property manager is not an option.

My gf had me move the biometric minigunvault to the nightstand from the upper shelf in the closet cause she said that by the time I open the closet and wait for the finger scan, pull out the gun and rack it, the perp would already be on us or in a defensive position within the house.

I moved it last night and had a few practice sessions on my timing, lol. She was right, it made a lot of difference having it right next to me in the nightstand.

Same as seatbelt in a car. You sit down and buckle up. No overreaction there, unless you are from the third world country where they would laugh at you for buckling up, then many of them would end up dead in their little tin cans. In both cases statistics show it's prudent to be cautious.

nope, you didnt over react at all. you need to sit your girlfriend down and make her understand that you would rather be a prepared to protect you both than to have a situation that leaves you both robbed, raped, or dead. But I've heard too many stories of a friend of a friend (or GF/BF) getting access to the keys, house layouts, times people are home, etc. For example, a lesbian girlfriend/lover of a sister who was suppose to only house sit his home had his money (a lot of it) stolen. Odd, that the family wasn't even aware the sister was a lesbian.

I even tell my wife and son not to mention to anyone that we have a gun safe.

If you're girlfriend and roommate's girlfriend must have a key, then talk about keeping your apartment keys from being out in the open.

It sounds paranoid, but people will see the preventable pitfalls only after SHTF.
