I personally much prefer the Rugers, especially those with the "D" trigger.

The M&P is an excellent gun though. IMHO, you really can't go wrong with an Glock, Ruger SR9, S&W M&P or Springfield XD.

I shot the Ruger....didn't like it much.

I think you should goto the range and rent both of them. Then YOU choose what you like better

I have shot both and prefer the trigger on the SR9, I just didn't like the double jointed trigger on the M&P.

We have both MP 9 and .40. Not a single hiccup. Quite happy with both pistols.

In a compact I prefer the SR9c, but for a full size I would have to say the M&P(Personally I like the M&P 45)

SR9C has a real nice trigger. Probably the best factory trigger on a polymer gun, but I chose the M&P9C because it fit my hand the best. I even sold all my Glocks and replaced them with the M&P line.

M&Ps are awesome. I think the only problem is the stock trigger and it isn't terrible imo. The Apex trigger set up is really nice though.

I haven't tried the Rugers, but I have heard great things about them.

It's more or less personal preference on what you would want. Try both and look into the differences and what you would prefer
