I had two mags modified to be flush fit, I think it's much better than that darn plastic pad sticking out. I replaced the ambi thumb safety with a Nighthawk single sided, excellent quality and the finish matches. My EMP had to be returned to SA due to primer flow plugging the firing pin hole. The fix was a steel FP and slightly reduced power FP spring.

If you've ever done IDPA or other competition and had a reload not work 'cause the mag was flush and didn't 'slam home', you appreciate a little extra pad. The same principle applies to SD.

I really like the flush mag also...but be aware that if you mag gets stuck in the gun during a reload, or during a double feed stoppage, the won't be a lot of mag to grab to rip it out of the magwell

True, but I see no need for the pad on the mag carried in the gun. I have extras with the pad still attached.

Two thumbs up on the EMP's!!
Every new shooter my wife & I introduce to guns they like the EMP 9 the best, such an accurate gun in a thin, small package.

I liked the nine so much I got the 40 too!

                [IMG][/IMG]

The reason people do the flush mag is for concealability, thats the whole reason for this gun, accurate & concealable in one, and they are!!

As far as getting a stuck mag out the front tang is still there to use & I doubt it'll stick- man those suckers launch out (ok guess if your rolling around in the dirt YMMV)

There's a long thread on them at 1911 forum under the Springfield category.

                Sent my EMP40 in for custom work;
single sided safety (flatter fit at 4 oclock)
loose the locking main spring housing
                front strap checkering
                undercut the trigger guard
round butt (now who doesn't like those huh?
old eyes front sight (painting a white ring around the night sight)
heavy carry bevel for that bar of soap feel
                custom trigger job

Man I'm jonesing to get her back!!! 8 more weeks!!

Recoil is less than what you might expect. You could pay less and get a great gun, but you would not regret purchasing an EMP.
                      This was my exact experience..

I shot it for accuracy.. Dead on..
I shot it at speed.. The recoil is normal, but it recovers MUCH faster than you would expect. Double, triple taps were center mass.

Its a great pistol and if I had a CCW, the EMP would definitely be on the list of candidates..
