    2011 builds?

I'm looking into 2011's but can't find too much info anywhere. Does anyone know how to legally have a compensator for the 2011? I had a kimber and know there are barrel bushing comps. Since we can't have threaded barrels i'm a bit stumped here and know i'm missing something simple. I know you can perm attach it with a roll pin or silver solder, but how would you take it out hte barrel to clean the gun?

On a 1911 the barrel is removed through the front of the slide. You can blind pin a compensator with the taper on to a threaded barrel, be CA legal and disassemble for cleaning.

The harder way is to get a Schuemann ported barrel and cut a slot out of the top of the slide to fit.

Bushing compensators are known to generally suck because the exit hole has to be big enough to clear the barrel. 1911 compensators are not really going to work very well in most cases because unless you have a quite high muzzle velocity, the gases are not moving fast enough to have a huge effect.

    If your 1911 is a .45, probably don't bother.

My Slide-Glide firearm and gun lube stays where you put it, forever. It will outperform your favorite lube, and softens felt reciol.

Go to the 1911 forum. Just about everyone has a 2011 over there.

i was looking for more of an answer how to legally do this in california. Not sure how one would go stripping down the slide and barrel to clean though.

And there are CA owners there! LOL I am one of them.

          You have a few choices.

-A threaded barrel bull barrel with a comp permanently attached/pinned.
          -Use a cone style compensator.
-Use an STI or Brazos trubor style set up: The barrel and compensator is all one unit.

The reason I said go to Enos is because you will find much more reliable answers there.

You are worried about cleaning the slide but you gotta remember the barrel on a 1911 does not drop in underneath like a Glock.

The barrel slides right out of the front.

Yeah I never looked into how some 1911s don't use the barrel bushing. I thought it was more complicated then it sounds and there was some kind of loophole. I wanted the question to stay on calguns specifically because I thought there was some loophole I wasn't aware of. Thanks guys

STI makes a trubore that has the comp built onto barrel if your worried about a threaded barrel I dont know of any one that has ever had a problem with a comped open gun ,Green locktite is almost to get loose and you could also do a small tig tack weld to make the comp unable to be romoved .I would be more worried about tryig to get a CA. frame that you could build on. As for stripping down to clean its a piece of cake. Have fun with your build open guns are a blast to shoot

STI sells a TruBor barrel with a comp for 9mm or 38super... They also have a gun smith blank comp barrel for sale... And are one piece items soo no threads to deal with but they come in bull barrel not bushing barrel..

You can install a Schuemann HyCOMP barrel in any 2011 or 1911 with a little machining work. They work great

That gun, and others through the Infinity GunBuilder website, are available in CA. Give them a call and they will tell you how the process works.

In the case of Infinity their comps are pressed/interference fit to the barrel, NO threads.
