Springfield Armory XDS Single Stack .45ACP Micro

Just recently read this article from Guns America. Looks really good... maybe Ill pick one up this spring.

Springfield Armory XDS Single Stack .45ACP Micro

So far the biggest story I have seen at SHOT Show 2012 is the XDS from Springfield Armory. It is a single stack .45ACP that holds 5 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. The barrel is 3.3 inches, and the overall length is 6.3 inches. It is only one inch thick. Empty the XDS weighs 21 ounces, and it is a striker fired pistol in the tradition of the XD and XD(M), with a polymer frame and forged steel slide. I don't know how many times we need to say that Springfield Armory is always raising the bar, but Springfield Armory is always raising the bar. Last year at SHOT Show about a half a dozen companies came out with single stack 9mm ultra-compacts. Over the past year they have all come into the market, with mixed reviews on most (our favorite was by far the Walther PPS). This year some of those guns have now been released in .40S&W, and it is common for 9mm and .40S&W to share the same frame in pistols. But when you want to make a pistol that small in a .45ACP, you have to go back to square one and make a whole new gun, and that is what Springfield Armory did.

In the 2012 Shot Show there is a video about one of those.

Michael (EBR Works), please start the process to get a SSE for this. It will be a hot seller!

Another decent gun that won't be sold to civilians without jumping through unnecessary SSE hoops.

Might want to hit the gym beforehand...if the published weight of 29oz isn't a typo. If it really does weight that much, Springfield FAIL.

Pretty sure it won't be on the roster. Saw a video taken at the Shot Show and a fellow was able to dry fire without a magazine. Ergo, no magazine disconnect. I love California, I feel so safe knowing I am protected from myself.

Pretty much spot on size of my XD9 Sub. I love .45, but 5+1 of 45 or 10+1 of 9mm? I will stick with 5 extra rounds before a reload.

                I still want one!

The only thing missing from the XDS is the striker cocked indicator
I do believe that is a "loaded chamber indicator". Are LCIs required in CA to be safe?

XD's normally have a cocked indicator and loaded chamber indicator.

When the XDm came out, beyond the lack of a magazine disconnect, supposedly California told Springfield that the loaded chamber indicator was not large enough. They apparently now want something that has writing on it saying if you see this gizmo, the gun is loaded. Ruger's Mark III and my Ruger SR9c both have huge loaded chamber indicators with warnings on them. I'm amazed they don't require multiple languages and a robot ala Lost in Space yelling "Warning Will Robinson....".

The cocked indicator is not something required by Californina, it is a magazine disconnect and a loaded chamber indicator (with neon signs) that will keep you from a negligent discharge.

Whether or not the story about the XDm failing in two categories is true, certainly the lack of a magazine disconnect has doomed many guns from easily crossing the the borders of California.

The XD series has both - "striker status indicator" and a "loaded chamber indicator". The XDS still has the "loaded chamber indicator" on top of the slide, but missing the "striker status indicator" on the rear of the slide.

Most likely the only way to get it is via SSE, or by the luck of chance via PPT from a LEO deciding to sell theirs shortly after they get it.

What I'm curious to know is how much will the gun retail for. I assume it's going to be around the XDM price, so expect to pay a good $600+ on the gun before any SSE fees and taxes & DROS (close to $800 OTD).

Personally, I'm more intersted in seeing the 9mm version of the XDs, and how those dimensions, weight, and round capacity turns out.

Typical journalist..."I don’t know how many times we need to say that Springfield Armory is always raising the bar, but Springfield Armory is always raising the bar."

When in reality, Springfield has invented the Glock 36.

But nonetheless, serious kudos to Springfield since the G36 has the ergonomics of a Glock, and that is something that the XD line will never be accused of.

Woohoo, about time they worked on the trigger put these into the regular XD's or at least the competition series.

Also, looks like they switched the extractor to the outside.
