Springfield 1911 Long Slide. Thoughts?

I rented a long slide 1911 from a range one time. I was pretty close to buying one. It's a fun gun to shoot. The only reason I didn't get one is because the 5 in models can do the something.

Some folks may not want a more sluggish feeling.

Lots of USPSA shooters lighten the long slide to the weight or under the weight of a 5 inch slide to get back some of the slide speed so that the sights track back into place quicker.

Springing the gun has a huge effect on all of this as well.

It depends on what you like. I prefer a full weight, heavy bull barrel, full dust cover gun. Some of my friends I shoot with prefer short dust cover, bushing barrel guns with chopped up slides.

To a certain extent but most likely you will not see a huge difference in slide velocity. Your recoil spring can only be so strong until you start having failures to eject.

I bought a SA Custom Shop pc9404 sometime ago and sold it ....

I am keeping my five inch pc9404.

The SA custom shop customized my P-13 to a longslide. Not the cheapest way to get one, but I'm very happy with the action and the accuracy.

It certainly helps with pin point accuracy if thats what you're going for. I just dont like how they look though IMO. I feel my 1911 is more accurate than I am and its a five incher.

Man, SA LongSlide is a very beautifull pistol and being a 6" would just lessen the recoil on the ammo your using and add about a 100ft per sec to the velocity...

I cant wait for my 6" to come in... Already acquiring parts for it as we speak...
