Springfield 1911 Long Slide. Thoughts?

The feel and action are similar to a 9mm 1911. It's a cool gun but it's a reverse plug and you may get some failure to feeds due to the extra mass/friction

Not sure what, what entails. But due to the added mass and length of travel the long slide feels like shooting a 5" 9m 1911. Or maybe I just have big muscles.

But one of the benefits of a longer slide is the increased sight radius, not just the fact you can meet the same power factor using less powder.

I love my longslide. Had springfield do some work and it is a beauty. The extra mass and length make it a tack driver. Easy and fun to shoot. The slide travel is longer so it is less snappy than a 5inch. More like a longboard vs shortboard in surfing. The longer gives a smoother ride.

To the OP

Some folks may not want a more sluggish feeling.

Lots of USPSA shooters lighten the long slide to the weight or under the weight of a 5 inch slide to get back some of the slide speed so that the sights track back into place quicker.

Springing the gun has a huge effect on all of this as well.

It depends on what you like. I prefer a full weight, heavy bull barrel, full dust cover gun. Some of my friends I shoot with prefer short dust cover, bushing barrel guns with chopped up slides.

I converted my RIA full rail tactical into a 6" longslide -

Plus I shoot my .30 Carbine 7" longslide -

Yeah - I like the longslides better than my 5" or 3.5" slide 1911's.......

I rented a long slide 1911 from a range one time. I was pretty close to buying one. It's a fun gun to shoot. The only reason I didn't get one is because the 5 in models can do the something.
