Tuolumne County resident here, just re-upped my permit this week. Glock 19, Glock 29 and S&W 642 are the three that are on the permit.

Slight threadjack, but I am picking up my G29 this morning and I am pumped!

.....Don't doubt it. You'd be surprised at how many law-abiding citizens choose to carry to protect their lives regardless of whether or not they were denied their rights. You'd also be surprised how many LEO's out there are of the mindset that if you are clean (sober/not a felon/no warrants) and you are carrying a CW that is lawfully owned by you (registered to you) without the permit, they WILL let you go on your way. Problem is, never know if one is dealing with one of these "Gems." My guess is 40-50% of LEO's are in this category. They (well, most of them) are also very well aware of OLL legality, and most have built at least one of their own!!!!!

A friend of mine, CCW'd without a permit for years, until he finally got caught. Orange County SO busted him.

Outcome = $900 fine, confiscation & destruction of handgun he was carrying and 2 year probation during which he could not possess or own firearms & ammunition.

Utah CCW is pretty easy to come by for traveling....does no good hear in Ca though. San Joaquin County Sheriff is pro carry and covers anywhere in Ca. Whatever you decide on carrying just make sure it fits the bill for you.

Seems to me that he should have just applied w/ a decent GCS & avoided all the trouble. It is perceived that Orange County is the place to live in Ka. if you want a CCW - very pro-carry Sheriff. It seems like the vast majority of people on Ka. CCW forums that divulge their "privilege" are from O.C.

When I legally can carry concealed (on the 400+ acres that I used to live on or at work) I either have my SP101 or one of my Kimber CDP IIs.

Most of the time I'll carry a HK P2000 V3 9mm. Otherwise I'll carry a Kimber Series I Classic Royal fullsize 1911.

I'm up in Utah visiting the family right now, and putting my Utah CCW permit to good use. I'm going with a Glock 27 in a Galco ankle glove mostly.

And let me tell you, EVERYONE carries up here. It's great, there are so many guns and I have never felt so safe.

...so did they take his firearms, or did he intrafamilial them off to Dad, or did he have to sell them? Just curious. I kinda thought this type of violation would end up in actual jail time in our state.

He was charged with 4 misdemeanors.
(carrying concealed handgun, carrying loaded handgun, concealed handgun in vehicle, loaded handgun in vehicle)
He plead no contest and made a deal for a fine & probation.
2 of the misdemeanors were dropped and he plead on the other 2.
The handgun he was carrying was confiscated & destroyed.
He sold his other firearms.

This occurred in late-90s and, at the time, he was a resident of San Bernardino County but was caught by the Orange County SO.

He was not a resident of Orange County and I believe it was just before Sheriff Carona got elected & made CCW issuance easier.

Since, Sheriff Carona is now under federal indictment for corruption, the CCW changes he made might change back to being more restrictive due to allegation he gave out CCW permits as polical favors to campaign contributors.

I've been told that a first offense, don't cause the officer grief in the process, is a slap on the wrist and about a $200 fine, and that's only if the LEO and DA both want to press it. I've also heard that if you have a clean record, don't cause a problem, most LEO's will let you go. Don't want to test it though, I'll stick to the 29 states I'm legal in.

First offense can be a misdemeanor, IF the handgun is registered to you. If not it can be a felony. It truly depends on the DA and arresting officer.

I really would not bet on the cop letting you go if you get caught doing it illegally, its completely up to the officer.

Many of cops I know would probably do the same and just let you go with a warning, HOWEVER most of the cops i know are true gun guys, and they are NOT in the majority. Even some that are gun guys would write you up, because they are "by the book."
