    It's still a spring, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try it.

      +1 on 9mm

      .40 needs more tension because of the muzzle velocity and bigger bullet.

        Just shoot it some more, the spring will loosen, but not a lot. Make her train with it.
        im not sure what you are talking about mags for HD

          HD=Home Defense

          Many people keep mags loaded just for HD and use other mags for the range only.

            This does NOTHING...

            Springs dont' get weak by them just sitting there.. They get weaker due to the constant compression/decompression.. Leaving it locked open a week isn't going to do anything.

            Also, pushing with the shooting hand can work.. I do it, I teach my other girlfriends to do it. It's how I remove stuck brass. I grip the slide and slam the back of the gun..

            Mostly though, it's all about she's initially gripping the slide with her support hand. If she picks an awkward spot or angle to start with, her range of motion will be limited and she'll have trouble racking it due to the way she's generating leverage.

            I will also cock the hammer first when they're first trying to learn it.. It makes it easier... once they figure out the sweet spot, then i tell decock it and let them cycle the slide the way in the normal fashion..

              A spring absolutely WILL weaken if it is not designed to be compressed for long periods of time, ie recoil springs which are designed for dynamic dampening or compressed beyond it's design limit ie some hi cap mags.

                Swap out the sig and get her a S&W 625 with 45acp moon clips.

                      Yes, the pistol "should" cycle just fine. No, I don't think the wife will notice much difference. No harm in trying, although, clipping one coil won't do much...... The best advice has already been stated, Lock the slide back for a week or more then just rack the poop out of it! When it comes to range day have the wife cock the hammer then rack the slide! If its still a problem get rid of the pistol or the gal.....

                          So, based on this theory a spring that is your magazine that remains loaded and collapsed would not function properly. It you would be smarter to get a softer spring but by doing that you risk the potential for function problems.

                          No. Have her try some different techniques but just by nature, the Sig springs are stiff.

                            Or I'm sure it will fetch a pretty penny on the market! I know I'd take it off your hands myself, unless you took a good hard look at your collection and deemed it prettier or more fun than something else you regularly shoot (to recoup funds).

                              "she is not strong enough to rack the slide."

                              My wife has the same problem. That's why she prefers revolvers. I think it's great that your wife already has a Sig 2340 that works for her.
