    sig 226 help needed....

i acquired a sweet near new (98%) sig 226 equinox 40s&w in a trade and i have a slight problem.

i have many handguns as it is and if i keep this i was going to make it the wifes gun,she has a sig 2340(40s&w/sig357) and would rather keep the 226 and sell the 2340.

but........she is not strong enough to rack the slide.

    any suggestions???

i have no need for a safe queen gun,i shoot all my others, she occasionally shoots her sig.

only other option is to sell it here. (not a feeler hint),i would rather find a way to respring it and sell the 2340.

sig website has no info on spring http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProdu...6-equinox.aspx

Don't think you'll get much help as I don't think there really is any. My .40 226st has a super strong spring even though I've already shot a few hundreds rounds...I bought it used, but it was never fired and still had factory grease. You may want to try a lighter wolff spring but with .40 cal, I would imagine you'd want the spring that was meant to be in there. You can also shoot it a lot to wear the spring in. Lastly, you can try some slide glide or other lube, but it's been negligible with my 226.

    YMMV.

    Good luck!

It also might help to cock the hammer, then rack the slide.

how is she racking the slide? is she using her fingers and palm and pushing with the shooting hand? or thumb and index finger and trying to pull back with very little leverage?

I'd get her a glock, sigs are a ***** to rack for some reason for women.

I've put good 3K through my used p226, the spring feels the same still.

she shouldn't be pushing with the shooting hand, that creats an odd angle which makes racking the slide hard.

Tell her too keep the gun steady with her shooting hand, then grab the back of the slide by completely wrapping the slide with the support hand. Then pull all the way back and release. It really is not that hard, just practice.

Ungh, I feel your pain. My sister loves my 45's but their springs are too strong for her to rack properly(or safely, lots of flailing around) so I end up racking/loading for her everytime. Only thing I can think about is having her do some arm exercises to strength hand/arm strength.

                    I don’t understand
She can rack the slide on her P2340 in 40 S&W.
But has a hard time on the P226 in 40 S&W.
They should have the same tension on the recoil spring.
Don’t try a lighter spring, you will be asking for Malfunctions.
                    Get her a wheel gun

pull the slide back and engage the slide stop, leave the gun open for a week. your spring will be better after a week.

when i first got my p226 equinox the spring was very stiff (the slide was hard to pull) and it recoils very hard at some point i thought it the slide and the frame will separate after each cycling but this method fixed it.

Uh, no. If that theory was correct, your mags for HD should be all worn out from not loading/unloading them.

Just shoot it some more, the spring will loosen, but not a lot. Make her train with it.

doesn't hurt i guess. i'll second pandaluv as far as the springs being super strong. i don't think you'll hurt it by keeping it open for while every time it's home from the range.

i know i had issues with the brand new mags i got with it (couldn't load the 10th round) and i was told to keep them fully loaded and they'd loosen up over time...a couple years later and i totally agree!

Incorrect, a magazine spring is designed to be compressed over long periods of time. A recoil spring is designed for dynamic dampening not static compression. It may not make a noticeable difference but it will weaken the recoil spring. A well designed magazine should see no noticeable fatigue from being compressed over long periods of time due to being kept well below the yield strength/plastic deformation range.
