    Walther PPS cannot make roster?

Is there any reason the Walther PPS cannot make the California Handgun Roster?
    • I have no doubt it will pass the drop test
    • The gun has a loaded chamber indicator in form of a window on the top breech
    • It has a Magazine Disconnect Safety

There should be no "characteristics" barring it from the roster. I am wondering whether it is simply a S&W (Walther's Importer) decision not to market in CA, or something else.

It probably hasn't been submitted for testing. I had one via SSE and then sold it several months later.

Magazine disconnect is an "option". I'd be curious to see if there is actually one out there.

How did you set that up? I mean who did you use to make the single shot conversion on a gun like that?

I know Valkyrie Arms has done the PPS in SSE.

The loaded chamber indicator is probably the problem. A window in the breech isn't good enough. California wants a billboard that pops up out of the slide.

a billboard with Wi-Fi connectivity to Wiki-leaks and a committee to evaluate the situation based on a biased study results that were paid for by private donations from anti-gun lobbyists... or does that not take effect until 2014?

I went through Valkyrie Arms in Milpitas. Your best bet is to go to the store and ask them. It's challenging these days to get them to respond to PM's, emails or phone calls. I'm still waiting for replies/return messages myself and I've spent a lot of money there.

I think you could just block a mag and take off the mag relase. That way it requires a tool.

Elvensouls quick SSE DYI Slead. Take your factory mag put a few drops of superglue, wait, then demonstrate to FFL that it now only holds one round.

The other way is to take the follower and spring out of the mag. Some new mags can be a real B#### about taking apart.

The window was good enough for the S&W M&P's. Can you find out if it was even submitted for aproval?

Maybe because the M&P was originally submitted to the roster before 2008. While they did add the magazine disconnect at a later date, they could have stayed on the roster even without that because they were grandfathered in?

I was fortunate enough to PPT a 9mm PPS from a CalGunner thru for sale ads---neat little pistol---thin, lightweight, reliable, really not much drama. Don't really see much of a need for the removable backstrap that disables the pistol, but then, I don't use it---I found the small size grip worked better for me even thou I have large hands---it just stays there. A high-quality pistol like this should be available here in Kalifornia, but it won't happen---some politician will invent charts to show how our "Safety List" has saved many many lives.

Starting on 01-01-2006, semi-auto centerfire pistols submitted for testing needed to have a "chamber load indicator" or a "magazine disconnect mechanism". [PC 31910(b)(4)]

Starting on 01-01-2007, semi-auto centerfire pistols submitted for testing needs to have both a "chamber load indicator" and a "magazine disconnect mechanism". [PC 31910(b)(5)]

The Walther PPS does not have a "chamber load indicator" as defined by CA law [PC 16380].

                              Penal Code 16380
As used in this part, "chamber load indicator" means a device that plainly indicates that a cartridge is in the firing chamber. A device satisfies this definition if it is readily visible, has incorporated or adjacent explanatory text or graphics, or both, and is designed and intended to indicate to a reasonably foreseeable adult user of the pistol, without requiring the user to refer to a user's manual or any other resource other than the pistol itself, whether a cartridge is in the firing chamber.

                              Penal Code 16900
As used in this part, "magazine disconnect mechanism" means a mechanism that prevents a semiautomatic pistol that has a detachable magazine from operating to strike the primer of ammunition in the firing chamber when a detachable magazine is not inserted in the semiautomatic pistol.

                              Penal Code 31910
As used in this part, "unsafe handgun" means any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person, for which any of the following is true:
                              (b) For a pistol:
                              (4) Commencing January 1, 2006, for a center fire semiautomatic pistol that is not already listed on the roster pursuant to Section 32015, it does not have either a chamber load indicator, or a magazine disconnect mechanism.
                              (5) Commencing January 1, 2007, for all center fire semiautomatic pistols that are not already listed on the roster pursuant to Section 32015, it does not have both a chamber load indicator and if it has a detachable magazine, a magazine disconnect mechanism.
                              (6) Commencing January 1, 2006, for all rimfire semiautomatic pistols that are not already listed on the roster pursuant to Section 32015, it does not have a magazine disconnect mechanism, if it has a detachable magazine.
