Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it. It looks like the general consensus is to go with the SA Loaded. It's been really hard to find one in my local gunshops that isn't being price gouged. I've thought about the GI models, but as a lefty shooter I think an ambi safety would be a good thing to have. Might take a look at the S&W and Ruger models, see what they have to offer and at what price.Comment

Don't let the safety play into your decision- an ambi safety can be added to any real 1911 very easily. Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it. Originally posted by 1911LuvrI beg to differ. The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!Comment

"The Oldest Name in American Firearms" and "it's all about trust"
im sorry but that made me laugh
especially when the big "MADE IN BRAZIL" stamp in two inches awayComment

All Springfield 1911's start in Brazil. The frames and slides are machined from forgings there. All other components like safeties, trigger groups, etc., are made there as well. The guns that are stamped "Made In Brazil - Imbel", are then completely assembled at the Imbel, Brazil facility, and shipped out as complete weapons, ready for sale to the various distributors.
The guns like my Range Officer that have no Imbel, Brazil markings are shipped to the Geneseo, Illinois facility for final fitting and assembly. They then go out from there as complete weapons.
There is no difference in quality in the Imbel guns, from the Geneseo, Illinois weapons. Both receive identical attention in assembly. Imbel is one of the top firearms manufacturing facilities in the world. They have highly skilled craftsmen working there on state of the art machinery. A lot of people hear "Brazil" and think Taurus, or Rossi in terms of quality. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just like here, there are great firearm manufacturers, and there are lesser quality ones. Imbel is one of the best.
Much like the aerospace industry that employs "Copy Exact" to assure all parts are the same, regardless of the facility they are produced in, Springfield carefully monitors quality from both the Imbel and Geneseo facilities to assure both products are exactly the same quality wise.If common sense was so common, why don't liberals possess any?Comment

I am not saying "don't get a GI" but it's not what you are looking for. I love my GI but it's my colt and kimber that get shot all the time. eta, my custom II has been uber reliable, granted I have only ran about 2k through it, but my understanding is that most of the kimber "bad blood" stems from a ridiculous experiment they had with internal extractorsThanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it. This made me think of a line from Armageddon when the russian guy said "Russian components, american components, all made in Taiwan!" then proceed hitting the spaceship haha.
The stuff that goes boom.

I have had Colt, Springfield, Charles Daly, and Kimber 1911s. My current go to piece is a slightly customized Kimber Custom (Not II) that I have 20K+ rounds through on the original barrel. After I wore the parkerizing off, I sent it back to be finished in Kim Pro Coat Dark Earth and they replaced all the springs in the weapon. I have yet to have a single failure with this pistol and never any rust on the barrel whatsoever. Given a choice of all the 1911 manufactuers out there, I would choose a Kimber any day over the others. Good luck with your purchase. In essence we're all freedom fighters, ready to defend the freedoms granted us by our forefathers. All good guns...I actually like the custom ll over the custom TLE ll since it doesn't have a checkered front strap...since it was only for target shooting, I regret not getting the basic custom...didnt need night sights on a range gun and I hated the cheese grater feel when shooting it....so make sure the options on the gun are really to your liking....3 day waiting period???? but I'm mad now!!!!!!Comment
