The question is not "How far?". The question is "Do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed?". - Il Duce/Prisoner#6570534 from Boondock Saints

The Kimber is a great deal at Turner's for $699. I got a Ruger SR1911 for $619 and feel its the best bang for your buck. Fit and finish is really nice.

There's a ton of value in the SA Loaded right out of the box.

Wild Sports in Orangevale has Kimber Custom IIs for $649.00 quite often...Give them a call if that location works for you.

Most Kimber models use a carbon steel barrel that is left unfinished. Not a deal breaker for me but it seems to be a MAJOR issue for some.

I just figure an owner needs to understand what his gun it is made of and care for it appropriately.

I got a Kimber Custom II. They sell them for $729 all day around here at two different shops. I chose the Kimber because I wanted a 1911 made in the USA and not Brazil. I know its not a big deal, but to me it is. Plus, the Custom II looks so nice.

I've had both the Kimber TLE (same as the Custom II, just with front strap checkering and night sights), a parkerized Springfield Loaded w/night sights. Both were great guns, but this is how I felt about them.

I really liked the Kimber TLE more with the fit & finish (better finish than th parkerized look), and it didn't rattle like the Springfield did if I shook the gun. Both felt good when shooting, so no differences there. I didn't like the rusting barrel on the Kimber, or the Schwartz firing pin safety on it. I liked the 70-series style Springfield better in that aspect, especially noticed when taking the gun apart and cleaning it.

If I had to choose one again, I'd get the Kimber. But that's just my opinion from my own personal experiences with both guns.

I've owned the kimber eclipse and Springfield loaded (the polished one that looks exactly like the eclipse). I'd take my Springfield loaded for sure over the eclipse

Love my Loaded. It's my first 1911 so I can't speak to any others, but if I were doing it over again I would buy another Loaded.

If it were me, in your price range, I would choose the Colt XSE or Colt Rail gun.

You can get a pretty nice 1911 off the private sales forum for $700-1000, let the other guy pay the tax.
