    Going crazy holster hunting!

Waiting to pickup my 1911 and I'm doing the usual 10 day shopping spree.

    1) Ammo
    2) Holster
    3) Mags
    4) Mag carrier
    5) ???
    6) Profit!

Only problem is I can't figure out which holster I want!

I currently use Blackhawk! for my Glocks, both the SERPA and the Standard models. Only thing is I don't care if my Glocks wear, and I really don't see the finish being harmed by anything less than diamonds on my Glocks.

With the new Colt 1911 it's a little different. I don't want to accelerate any wear by using something that promotes it. Running the hard Kydex is likely to cause wear in the areas that contact. But, so will anything. My main objective here is to slow down the wear process.

However, maybe I'm being too fatherly here. Maybe I should just run a Kydex holster and save some money. What does everyone think?

If you're looking to minimize holster wear then it seems like leather is the way to go.

        Safariland.
Mine (6280) has a suede like material on the inside, no noticeable holster ware on my glock.

Will this be a carry gun? Maybe the answer should seem obvious because you're holster shopping, but there are a hundred and one reasons to have a holster for a pistol besides concealed carry, right.

Galco has a couple of models that have a suede lining, I think they're called the FX line. There's a paddle version and an OWB with belt loops version. And I know some of the custom leather holster guys can do the suede lining as well.

As you've already mentioned, ANY holster will cause wear, but a suede lining seems to be the kindest and gentlest on a handgun's finish.

And if it is going to be a carry gun, then I'm r over time you're going to have to accept a little wear.

Yeah, won't be a carry gun. I'll only be using the holster at the range, classes, and occasionally at home.

Safariland has the suede lining, and Garrett has leather lined Kydex. I'm just not use if I'm over thinking this and should just go for the $25 Blackhawk!.

Meh who cares. its a gun. Enjoy it rather than fretting over some wear. I prefer my guns with some wear. It means you actually shoot them rather than sit there and stare at them. Don't get me wrong I don't want a abused worn out gun but a gun that has some wear on it IMO is not a big deal to me.

I had a Ruger P85 and that was my everything gun. Well it was my only pistol and it had wear from holster from myself and it was also a police trade in back in the day. Anyway i didn't mind the gun shot fine and functioned flawlessly. So it had soem wear due to use. I sent it to Ruger on a recall back before I sold it to a buddy and they sent me back the gun fixed and completely refinished. When i sold it it looked like a new gun

Yeah... I guess I'm just being a new gun parent.

Edit: Well, I just ordered the Blackhawk Standard for $25 shipped. I'll probably end up getting a few more holsters, especially one for CC.

If you don't already have a safe, that should be the first thing on that list.

I'm willing to bet that most gun owners don't have a safe. They are a great idea, but not always the first thing that one needs to buy.

I like this Wilson Combat one....it is kydex with a suede liner and I have not noticed any wear on my blue Colt. I also use some leather lightning on it for a faster draw.
