Here is a very basic overview of the Taurus PT1911 in 9mm. I just started getting into handguns only recently. I normally shoot rifles all the time and borrow family and friends handguns at the range. Some 4 months ago I purchased a .45 RIA 1911 tactical. I liked the 1911 pistol so much that I wanted a 1911 in 9mm but none where on the roster that I knew of. I found the one below at a local shop where I live and purchased it by doing a SSE.
Place of purchase:
Metaldog Tactical (located in San Jose CA). They had a Taurus PT1911 in 9mm pistol for sale ( I think they still have another one also). It was a SSE pistol. I had done business with Metaldog tactical in the past and when I found this one there I had to get it. As a side note the team at Metaldog Tactical are very good. I always get excellent service from them.
Research on the pistol:
I did not find that much info on this particular pistol. The information I did find were people that had the pistol and liked it after some changes. Some people were reporting two main problems with the pistol, failure to eject and the slide not staying open after the last round was shot. In general people liked the pistol but there is so little info on it when I looked I thought I would share some of my limited experiences with it.
My thoughts on the pistol
The PT1911 feels the same in weight as my RIA .45. The checkering on the front and rear of the grip feels really good. I did a basic field strip of the pistol before taking it to the range. I shot over 250 rounds of different 9mm ammo through it with no issues. I used the two mags that came with the PT1911. Both worked fine although getting that last (9th) round in was difficult. I tried UMC, Herters, Winchesters and Sellier & Bellot ammo and they all worked fine in the PT1911. I did not have one failure to feed or eject. The slide stayed open after the last round was shot every time. In terms of accuracy I won't comment on that but let's just say I am not that good of a shot with a pistol, more practice needed.
All in all I am very happy with the PT1911.
