doesn't sound like a lube problem to me, the rails and lugs don't have a thing to do with locking the slide back...that's a mag or a slide release problem

FWIW, my 1911's love grease, or any lube for that matter...but I'll tell you like I tell everybody else, it doesn't matter what lube you use just as long as you use it

I use BelRay Waterproof grease in the summer, and Mobil 5w30 the rest of the year

I use Slide Glide on all my 1911's. Works great, no problems whatsoever.

I've been using oil forever - but have been wanting to start using a quality grease (for longer lasting and no drip/run)...

I haven't found a definitive but seems from this thread that Slide Glide is a fav... is that grease or oil? And can it be found at local gun shops or primarily online? (I cant really find many options for grease at the brick & mortars I frequent)

Um, how much grease are you using? I have seen that happen before but only when way too much grease has been used. So much it pours out the back of the slide.

it makes no difference what grease or oil i use on my tight semi-custom or custom 1911's. works just fine.

I cant duplicate the lock back issue since the grease was removed... Maybe I used too much grease? I think I may have put too much because a load of it was pushed out inside the frame and the back side. My conclusion is that the combo of grease, brand new 18 1/2 spring, and weak ammo was the culprit but what do I know lol.

yeah, could have been a bad combo, but the fail to lock back doesn't have anything to do with grease, it's the mag follower pushing up the slide release...look for copper colored marks on the slide release, and if you see some, file only the area it's hitting...try that and report back

Correct me if I'm wrong please: when slide (upper reciever) of a semi-auto pistol or bolt of a mag-fed semi-auto rifle fails to lock to the rear when the mag is empty, isn't it usually caused by a mag out of spec, mag catch out of spec, or combo of both? I can't see how "bad ammo" would caused the condition unless it failed to fire, thus remaining in battery and a completely different condition.
