I would recommend a NHC GRP Recon, it has a rail and the SF X300 for about 2,600. I have a regular GRP, I just wish it was a recon. If you want something below 2,000, the Les Baer Ultimate Recon is nice with the Streamlight TRL-1s included in the price.

I think it really depends on which gun you can shoot best with. If you can run your $3k pistol like a pro then why not use it, if you are okay with potentially losing it someday because it saved your life.

I know it will be a while before I get an EB, but this picture is worth a thousand words. Compare the checkering on a NH versus the EB's. I haven't seen an EB with a flaw.

In that price range I'd look very hard at the Springfield Professional, but my personal choice would be to start with a Dan Wesson CBOB and have it tweaked a bit by a 1911 guy I know...but I am a bit picky about what is on a 1911 I'd carry.

I don't have a problem carrying a $3000 1911 that I might have to use defensively...it's what I shoot at IDPA matches and I don't baby it at all

Getting my 1st 1911 soon, I would like to get a top shelf as my other pistol is a glock and hasn't cost much over the past few years. So i figure ide spring...besides, I'll get my ccw soon and so i wanted a full size to carry.

3K budget. I want a buy once cry once that I can toss a surefire light on and be done.

Carrying a full size has it's issues, even my Ultra CDP is harder to hide than the M&P9c. Also understand that your carry gun is going to get the crap beat out of it, holster wear etc. It's a tool at that point and it'll wear.. Additionally most custom guns have a light trigger pull. IMO a 1911 platform cocked and locked with a light trigger is not a good idea. I'm not saying don't buy the gun but you're better off choosing another gun that's a better fit for CCW.

I disagree. A good 1911 with a 5 or so pound trigger pull carried in condition 1 is perfectly safe. Get a little training, keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire and it should be fine. I will agree that if you're unsure about carrying condition 1, a 1911 is not for you.

IMHO, guns are tools. They have a purpose. In this case, self defense.

OP, I would also look at a Wilson Combat CQB, Springfield Professional and the Cylinder and Slide Trident before I decided.

carry the Glock and leave the 1911 at home. Why carry a 3k pistol that gets finish wear, scratches. I wouldn't carry a 1911 if my life depends on it..just my opinion. My father lost 2 friends in his 25 yrs of LE service...guess what they were carrying.

The 1911 is not suited for daily carry use at all. The 1911 is better suited as a sidearm backing up your primary when going through house-to-house clearing in Iraq or Afghanistan. It is a pistol designed and proven best to be riding on your side when going through a hostile place that smells like hell is about to break loose.
