    am i being paranoid?

im not sure if this is in the right section, so mods can feel free to move it to the section it belongs in..

but there have recently been a string of break ins in my neighborhood recently, and a couple minutes ago some guy comes to my door and rings the doorbell and starts knocking pretty loudly.

right now, my father is out of the country on business so it is just me and my mother, and neither of us were expecting anyone

we didnt answer the first time, but when he started knocking again I went to go see who it was and it was some guy that I have never seen before, I ask who it is without opening the door and he says hes from some non profit organization, and I just say I'm not interested.

so my mother doesn't want me to have a firearm out of my safe, but I'm a little weirded out. I know its not that late, but 9 PM is a bit late to go out soliciting in my opinion.

anyways, I have my beretta loaded with hollowpoints just a couple feet away from me, against my moms wishes.

    am I just being paranoid?

No. Since your gun was a few feet away from you, you weren't being cautious enough.

I also carry at home, and not going to be answering the door after dark unless I know in advance a friend or family member are coming over.

                cautious, prepared, weary: yes.
                paranoid? absolutely not!

trust your gut.. if things feel out of place, by all means take precautions. it would be nice if we lived in a world where we could dismiss things like that and not have any worry about dangerous crooks. but the simple fact is: we don't. my mother would probably feel similarly (although she knows how I am about those type of things, and knows I am adequately trained, so she would never object)... sometimes you just gotta say "sorry mom!" better to protect your family.

Not paranoid at all. 9:00ish is late to me. There were many times where I wanted to answer the door with a gun pointing at the person's face while I ask if I can help them.

Once it is dark if someone knocks on my door my gun is in my hand. It's not being paranoid it's being prepared.

Better safe than sorry. At home(or the apartment I call home) I always have my .45 with me, but then again I don't have kids to worry about or a wife that nags me.
