didnt get a deal but didnt get ripped i can live with that. i was talking to dude at the gunshop and he said no one sells guns in original unopened box which kind of bothered me i dont like the idea of getting the floor model that everyone and there mother has handled, is that a true statement or was dude selling wolf ticketsComment

yea it was stainless and new but was on display and not in a new box or anythingComment

damn 700 for the 9mm stainless, but i quess the black ones are a little cheaper right?Comment

I look at it this way.
Can you find one cheaper.....just like everything...im most case yes....shopping=deals.
Now what are you saving??? A couple bucks for a few hours of you time and maybe some headaches.
I try to buy from friendly neighborhood gun stores. A couple extra bucks isn't that big a deal and in the end Im helping keep a good shop in buisiness.
Congrats on your new toy.

I paid $570 for a new 226... in 1992
My first 226, alloy framed, was $570, back in 1992.
My second 226, alloy framed, used in 2006, was $599.
The used Stainless 226 I saw last month, with some galling in both rails, was $700.
So you did well with your purchase.Comment

How I look at this one:
1. SIG already discontinue their all stainless P226 product line (unless we are talking about the X5), so the shop has a good reason not to lower the price; same as paying MSRP or higher then MSRP for some fancy sports car when their supply is limited.
2. Unless this is for collection, and you are never going to shoot it, otherwise there really is no difference buying a display vs. new in box, as long as display gun does not have serious handling marks. You still have to take it out of the box and perform safe handling part of the HSC anyway.
Enjoy your gun. Heck, knowing the fact that SIG don't make this gun anymore, it will fall off list soon and will be PPT only in the future. If you decide to sell it you might get the same amount or even more here in Cali, just because it will be "off-list" in the future.
ETA: Some small gun shop does not have the $$ in their pocket to have multiple inventory of the same item. They order one, at most two of the same model each time. So their display gun may be the only one they have in stock.Last edited by CWM4A1; 11-08-2007, 4:32 PM.NRA certified RSO, Pistol/Rifle/Personal Protection Inside The Home instructor, Certified SIG/Glock pistol armorer.Comment

the 226 stainless as well as the 220 stainless models are still avaliable as per sig for the california market because they are on the list, they are no longer a catalog itemHow I look at this one:

Yes, it's still on California list, but SIG is not making them any more, thus SIG will not renew the certification to keep it on the list. Once the ST model dropped they are dropped for good.NRA certified RSO, Pistol/Rifle/Personal Protection Inside The Home instructor, Certified SIG/Glock pistol armorer.Comment

There's no conflict here. SIG might have residual stock; I got a "franken P226" from SIG using SIG stainless frame and Navy slide as replacement for my broken P228. There may even be CPO ST models available from time to time. Who knows, you might be right... P225 is not on their catalog too... Let's Wait till end of March 08 to find out as P226 ST (all cliber) are schedule to "drop" after 3/11/08 and P228 is schedule to "drop" after 3/27/2008, and they are not on Sig catalog now.NRA certified RSO, Pistol/Rifle/Personal Protection Inside The Home instructor, Certified SIG/Glock pistol armorer.Comment
