That is a shameful, that no provisions were made, it wouldnt have cost anything just write it in.I don't think so under the current scheme.I have neither the inclination or the time to relieve people of the regional and ethnic handicaps that they inherited from their ancestors.
You should banish any thoughts of how you may appear to others.

I just rechecked the exemption codes for the HSC. Those were listed earlier in this thread. They are the ONLY Military exemptions. I agree. It is most shameful that our non-retired honorably discharged vets weren't included.Comment

I know a doctor with a non-emergent specialty who is a captain in the Navy and was head of her specialty's department while active (now reserves, last I heard) and somehow I doubt she, being hospital-bound, was trained in firearms at any point, let alone at any regular interval.Comment

Well, that gives me about 22 more days to get a handgun sans HSC.
Well let me tell you, son, war isn't hell. War is mall. Shopping mall.

She probably DID at least get some cursory firearms training during her initial training. It's completely possible that she never did any training beyond that. I don't think I've ever heard of someone going through some basic military training and not get at least some weapons familiarization. After that initial training, how much further training you get would probably depend on your assignment.I know a doctor with a non-emergent specialty who is a captain in the Navy and was head of her specialty's department while active (now reserves, last I heard) and somehow I doubt she, being hospital-bound, was trained in firearms at any point, let alone at any regular interval.Comment

Everyone in the military is trained with some sort of firearms at some point in their career, NO ONE IS EXEMPTED.
I worked with enough medical personnel and chaplain's to know that for a fact. They moan and groan when it comes to qualify on the M-9, but they all have to do at least that to get out of the abbreviated medical OBC.
That Navy Captain most definately have qualified with at least a handgun. You don't get O-6 with seniority on almost any naval vessel without being at least proficient on some sort of firearm. That whole assertion about medical and chaplains is just ludicrious, its the MILITARY, not some boy scout jamboree.Comment

I remember doing an annual requalification with 45's once and the person shooting next to me was a female O-3 gynecologist.I know a doctor with a non-emergent specialty who is a captain in the Navy and was head of her specialty's department while active (now reserves, last I heard) and somehow I doubt she, being hospital-bound, was trained in firearms at any point, let alone at any regular interval.
All I could think of was "A gynecologist shooting a 45?" I had never seen one that dangerous.Last edited by Fjold; 11-09-2007, 10:29 AM.Frank

"if you are a cook in the military it still exempts you"
And it damn well should!! It might interest you to know that this retired cook was also a ships weapons officer and firearms trainer. I was responsible for everything from flare launchers to .50bmg and training all personnel on small arms as well as use of force. Nobody got to carry without going through me.-Tim-Comment

My wife is a cook and she still has too qualify with the M-16 every two years. When she deploys she has to qualify with both M-16 and M-9 before she can ship out. They will make you qualify with whatever they think is necessary for the theater of operations you will be in."if you are a cook in the military it still exempts you"
