Because they have lower bores, shorter and more positive resets, no superfluous grip safeties, and cheap and readily available parts (both OEM and aftermarket)?

Again, the stuff that comes with the XD is junk. Anyone that actually uses a holster or mag pouch buys their own from a reputable maker anyways (Bladetech, Comptac, etc.). Furthermore, the price difference is not really that great, especially when you take into account a box of ammo is $15 per. Better to just get the pistol that fits you more from the start, period.

So? Bore height is like a preference. I shoot better with my XD over the glock thats why I purchased it. And who cares if the stuff it comes with is junk. its 100-150 cheaper than a glock, its ergonomically better, a safer firearm, and does everything a glock can do. For 100 bucks cheaper.

When people bring up things like bore height and trigger reset, it's usually because they're shooting at speed. Stuff like IPSC/IDPA/USPSA. A lower bore has less muzzle flip, a shorter and more positive reset is more conducive to fast and accurate shooting (you ride the reset). It's not merely "like a preference." And for those that value those attributes, a $100 price difference is nothing (equivalent to a couple of range sessions' worth of ammo).

If you have no experience with any of the above and/or don't plan on ever acquiring such, then your "So?" sentiment is understandable. Static slow fire at paper, they're both the same. Ergos are a toss-up (because ergos are inherently a personal preference thing), safety is debatable.

Don't get me wrong. The Essentials package is definitely a great deal, and the XD definitely a nice gun. In fact, I prefer my XD 45 Tactical over my G21sf in .45acp (hence the 10mm barrel in my 21sf). In 9mm, however, Glock is where it's at, followed by the M&P. Look at the USPSA 2010 Nationals Production Division list (where competitors use essentially box stock pistols):

I have shot both and I prefer the XD. I own the bitone 9mm service model. The extra 3 mags are a good deal. The Mag pouch and holster dont use as a factor.I like the grip safety, the cocked indicator and the loaded chamber indicator, all of which let you know the status of the gun in complete darkness.

The best thing you can do with any decision is to go shoot them side by side. I was quite the XD lover when I had a 45. Went to try the 9's out because I didn't know which length to get and I hated the 9/40 XD vs. the 45. Shot and felt like crap to me and I ended up....to my surprise....trying a Glock 19 and absolutely loving it. Problem was I completely converted to Glock and sold my XD45 which was a fantastic pistol.

Edit, when I had my XD45 there were issues with weak mag springs from the factory and I ended up installing aftermarket springs. Is this still an issue?

I just bought a xd9sc and love it! i think its going to become my favorite, goto pistol. Before this i was big on compact size glocks (19/23/32), and i recently got a glock 31. I shot about 200 rounds of 9mm out of the xd9sc and the glock 31 (via lone wolf 9mm conversion barrel) before i shot .357sig out of it. I shot the xd9sc as accurately, if not more than the glock 31... My gf really liked the glock 31 shooting 9mm out of it. I should get her a glock 17.

Anyways, i think that you should try to shoot both before you buy. I like the simplicity of glock pistols, especially field stripping and cleaning them. How i shoot is most important to me though. Shooting accurately is #1 in my book. #2 is the reliability/reputation, and #3 is ease of take down...one of the things i really dislike about 1911's.

I have both and love them. You can't go wrong with either. I say go to the range and shoot both. Buy the one that you shoot better. Or buy both

Ive shot both...for me the XD felt better...thats why I went with the XD....plus I got it for $20.00
