On this particular model, how does the different barrel lengths affect the recoil? Is the longest barrel recoil that much different than the middle length? Asking for the wife.

The answer lies in weight. With the extra length of the barrel and slide (weight), it takes more energy to move the gun, and specific to the discussion, the movement of the barrel upward - muzzle flip. The extra weight hanging out at the end of the gun will slow and reduce the flip.

Since there is no chance I'll get a carry permit in Alameda County there is not a pressing need for me to attempt to conceal the weapon. So for me, I prefer a longer barrel to help with muzzle flip but mainly to help in sight radius. I've got old eyes and a shaky grip, I need all the advantages I can get.

I agree with crud. My 45 Tactical has about the same felt recoil as my 9mm Service. My 40 SC has the most of all, by far.

In October, I purchased the XD9 with a 4" barrel. I have put 600 rounds through it so far, and am very pleased with it. Not one problem so far. I spent $399 at Turner's, and received the three free magazines from Springfield.

My only complaint is the sights, they are a little small. I will be getting these changed.

I definitely recommend this gun, especially for the price.

I picked up an XD tactical 9mm second hand from a fellow calguns member and have been quite satisfied with it. It was purchased for my gf who is 5'4" 130 and she shoots it at least once a week. We tried out several 9mm trying to find the one that felt best to her and XD tactical (5") is what she liked the best. After several thousand rounds through it, she has yet to get a malfunction. Springfield also is a great company that will stand behind their guns.

GTG my best bud has a XD9 and that thing is rock solid. SA is Springfield Armory and they have been around for a while, and they do make quality stuff like 1911's and newer M1's

I own 2 a 9mm subcompact and a 45 tactical. The customer service is flawless and quick. The 9mm compact wasn't sighted in perfectly and I had to send it in, they sent me a prepaid box. The sights are firm and won't move so it's good as a combat/patrol weapon. They even offered to install tritium sights for less than the parts cost on the market at the time. My 9mm subcompact came back accurate enough to plink cans at 35yd, impressive for a 3" barrel.

They just feel right and are easy to care for. The 9mm would kill any size of monster trying to huff puff and blown your house down.
