a mill and sanding...a file and sanding...or sanding and sanding...If I wanted a slide like the monolith, I would order a custom slide that way, nobody said that removing had to be filled in, if you came to my place and told me to remove serrations they would be removed, not filled in

Depending on a variety of factors already stated above by responders, seems that the best way to do it is just to have a new slide fitted in. It will be the fastest way and easiest way, and you will be assured of the integrity of the metal of the finish product---provided you buy a quality aftermarket slide.

FCS stands for Front Strap Checkering? Is the checkering botched up? That might be a reason why the OP want's the checkering offed.

FCS= front cocking serrations

The options the original poster has realistically is the high-power type cuts that mill down to the depth of the front serrations, buy a new slide which will require fitting of the slide, barrel and bushing or learn to live with FCS.

I have pistols with and without fcs; while I prefer no fcs, they never bother me enough to remove them. YMMV.

Back in the days I used those front serrations to actually cycle my open gun, but after a 40+ round stage in the summer heat I only touched those front serrations a couple of times learning the hard way.
