removing serrations on 1911?

who does this work? is it possible to do or is it something i'd have to have to specify BEFORE the gun was made?

depends on how thick the material is below the serrations...are you wanting a totally naked slide, or just different serrations/pattern?

I hope you mean Slide Serrations, but just in case you mean front strap checkering, you can use a flat file to knock down the points and make it less aggressive. The more you file the flatter and smoother the knurling gets. I prefer front strap checkering, but to me if it's overly aggressive then it makes it harder to reposition your hand.

the OP didn't say anything about filling in serrations, he was asking about removing them, unless he's talking about removing front serrations (thats easy depending on thickness of serrations), although that can be done as well (though it costs a bit more)...IMO Hi-Power cuts are dead sexy on a 1911 if only I had a milling machine

Got to have them ground down (which will inevitably look different) or order a different slide that doesn't come with them.

You could always start with a raw slide and then have it cut any way you wish:

i did some research and i guess i have 2 choices. custom order it without it, or have someone weld some metal and file it down to "fill" the serrations in.

So the first posted pic was the desired look, not the current look? OK, now I get it.

Personally, I wouldn't spend a dime to get them removed if it was cosmetic only. It's almost $200 for a new slide!

There seems to be reading comprehension problems on this thread.

The OP posts a pic of a gun with no front cocking serrations, and with frontstrap checkering. He asks "Who does this work?", leading us to believe he's talking about having a gun without FCS.

He didn't say FCS, he just said remove serrations, and showed a pic of a gun without FCS, therefore it was my guesstimation that he was looking to remove the rear...

He asks if you can get FCS removed. Well, how else would you get them removed other than having them filled in, PRCABR4Christ?

a mill and sanding...a file and sanding...or sanding and sanding...If I wanted a slide like the monolith, I would order a custom slide that way, nobody said that removing had to be filled in, if you came to my place and told me to remove serrations they would be removed, not filled in

Now that the OP has given us more information, here's what I would suggest...buy a new slide if you want a Les Baer Monolith type slide (unless you already have a TRP or similar bull barrel full rail slide), and I promise unless you do the work, it will be much more than $200 (a slab side slide is more than $200 without any work on it)...my suggestion would be to send it to Joe Chambers, he does a fantastic job with bull burrels and has a few tricks up his sleeve with his threaded cone barrel...

Once you remove metal it's hard to put back unless you're willing to spend some money paying a professional welder and machinist. I just don't like the idea of welding a heat treated part.
