Thoughts on a Glock 26/19?

Instead of making a new thread I thought I would edit this one...

I have narrowed my next purchase to a compact 9mm and I am having a hard time to decide between a Glock 26/19 or the XD 9mm Sub Compact. Anyone here have a Glock 26? Thoughts? Opinions? Should I go with the Glock 19 to be more versatile? I am looking for a pistol to be my main bug out gun and something I can take when I camp. Anything and everything is welcomed, thanks..

A Glock 17 mag will fit into a Glock 26. I have heard of people experiencing occasional feeding problems in the G26 since the G17/34 mag can rock ever so slightly in the G26 magwell. I have a G34 and a G26 and have used the G17/34 mags in the G26 and have experienced no problems.

Just to throw it out there, you could get a G27 in .40 and a conversion barrel to 9mm. Then you'd have both a .40 and a 9mm in the same frame. You can use the .40 mags with 9mm ammo, but it's certainly not recommended. Glock mags are cheap enough, though, that you could get a few of each.

You can convert the .40 to a 9mm, but you can't convert the 9mm to a .40.

Yes, this combination would work too. Since you're looking at the 19 or the 26, you could go with a 26 and get a small grip extension for a 19 mag. A mag for the 17 will still look funny with that extension. I'd say that given that you have GLOCK magazines, I'd recommend sticking with the GLOCK platform.

If you buy a 26, the magazines for the 17, 18, 19, and 26 will all work. Yep, even the 33 round mags...

Unless you are going to CCW the thing then the 19 is by far a better choice.

People buy the 26 and put on the finger extension to make it more comfortable to shoot then the grip is right there with a 19.

I have both the 19 and 26. I love em both and I was amazed at the accuracy of the 26. For such a small weapon to still function so well made me really happy. Maybe it's the slightly different grip but I sometimes shoot it better than the 19 even thoguh it has a shorter barrel. Go figure! Yes, the 19 is more versatile since it's size makes it more useful for both concealed carry and open carry. The 26 takes all glock 9mm mags and i've borrowed a friends 33 rounder at the range and it's alot of fun having that many rounds in such a compact piece. If you purely want concealability get the 26. It also depends on your hand size. If you got bigger hands the 26 might feel uncomfortable without a grip extender. Myself, i don't mind my pinky under the grip(actually kinda like it). Also, don't forget that the 19 has a rail if that matters to you and a slightly longer barrel meanes slightly higher muzzle velocity. In the end you may end up getting both like I did.

Exactly. I own a 23, which is the same size as the 19. About the only place I haven't been able to conceal it well is in an ankle holster. No I don't have a CCW, but if I do carry around the house, I CCW to keep from freaking out the wife. She does not do well with guns...

A reason why I was considering the 19 was for the rail and the use of a light. I am really torn between the 19 and the 26 so I guess I am going to have to shoot them both first.

If you want a rail to use a light then get the 19.

I agree with randy, unless you plan to conceal carry the G26, go with the G19. The G19 has a long sight radius and the grip fits the hand better. Sure, you can get a grip extension so your pinky doesn't hang, but then why not get a G19 with the longer barrel and sight radius.

I vote for the G19. Honestly, if I was gonna carry a Glock, I'd still pick the G19 over the G26.
