    Jim Hoag update

Well, I brought my Hi-power in for a trigger job exactly two weeks ago from tomorrow and Jim said it would be ready this week. I figured I'd give him till tomorrow to call but I didn't have to. He called me yesterday afternoon..said it would be ready today, and I could pick it up anytime. Picked it up this morning...contrary to some reports that he is slowing down, he seemed bright and chipper and totally with it. Trigger is a perfect 4.5 pounds..just like he said....
3 day waiting period???? but I'm mad now!!!!!!

Good to hear! I may one day when I get my 1911 send it to him if I ever end up doing that stuff but I like my guns stock most of the time unless its beyond HD.

I heard some bad things recently but it sounds like its just people spreading stuff.

I think general consensus was that if your pickup/drop off then you're good. It seems that it's the send in's that he's having trouble keeping track of. Glad you had a great experience.

He loves the Carls Jr Super Star meal. Might be a good idea to drop him off some lunch and it may cut down the work time frame .

Welp, I took my Springfield GI and about $600 in parts to Hoag last week. Requested fitting of all my parts, trigger job, FS checkering--the works! He dropped it all in a metal tray, filled out a simple receipt, smiled and not another word.

Then I go do some digging around to see how he has been doing recently and there is some talk of slowing and forgetfulness. I'm 50/50, either I will get a gem back in a timely fashion or I'll be headed over in a few months to pick up a bag-o-parts.

I want my GSP type 1911 built by one of the old time pros so the dice are in play.

              I'll keep you guys posted.

He is good to go, I've seen some recent work and it was top notch.

and my favorite(checking out my Sistema)

Jim put together several guns for me. The only issue I had was with the front sight on my Norinco build. He custom made the sight and there were some issues with the white dot-it did not look very precise.

He fixed the issue and the Norky runs like a gem(looks good too)-I may still trade out the front sight for a Novak low profile front sight-Overall, I am very satisfied.

The Colt Series 70 came out awesome!

Is he expensive and does he only work on BHP and 1911's?

He works on all kinds of guns -even Glocks!

All the work he did for me, some do themselves-even rebluing. I paid for his expertise and reputation- His prices are in line with other gunsmiths for the work he does.

He charged me $150 for sight install/ fabrication and rebluing of the slide. This was only one part of the job of course.

my winchester 1897 needed to be assembled (beyond my area of expertise)
it sat there for five months. i called every so often and was always assured it would be ready "in a couple weeks"
picked it up today (still in pieces mind you) with not so much as an apology or explanation on his part.

I have a 1974 browning hi power I picked up recently, had trigger guard checkering, pistol grip checkering, extended dovetail, barsto barrel, brought it to him to take a look and it turned out he worked on in it in the late 70s. He recognized his work right away, hes still a sharp guy just getting up there in age is all. His work doesn't look to be suffering one bit.

thats what i figured, seems his 1911 and BHP work is good but everything else may be lacking as far as actually getting to it
