I believe most Automags are on the C&R list and roster exempt. Check out GB for them. The heir to the company has been selling off daddy's collections.
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Not going to be easy or cheap. Very pricey for the small amount that are floating around. I've only seen 2 come up for sale in cali the past 10 years. Desert Eagle would cost less and is way easier to get.

Pistols have to be over 100 years old to be C&R. Automag was made in the 60's and 70's.

EDIT: I'm sorry morrcarr67, you are correct. 50 years is the limit. 100 years would classify as an antique and would not require a DROS. I mixed that up. My bad.

          Actually....

Title 18, Section 921(a)(16) defines "antique firearm" as follows:

"The term 'antique firearm' means -

          (A) any firearm (including any firearm with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system) manufactured in or before 1898; and
          (B) any replica of any firearm described in subparagraph (A) if such replica -
          (i) is not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition, or
(ii) uses rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition which is no longer manufactured in the United States and which is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade."

            ><

There is one on GB.....I would recommend looking for one that includes the factory case

They are listed as C&R ....so all you need is cash and DROS

I just scored a 1911 type 7" AMT long slide with the scope in .30 carbine for $680 -

Needs to be single shot exempted...

I've been watching both the 45ACP and 50AE models -

Seems $800 is about the going price unless you get lucky...

The High Standard version is $3000+...

The Auto Mag board is here.

There's a classified ad section as well.

As far as big bore autos, there is nothing better than an original Auto Mag.

Still a drop-dead good looking weapon. I had to settle for an AM II in .22 magnum. Made one helluva lot of noise but was about as accurate as throwing rocks. Good fun, though.

ATF has added many Automags to the C&R list even though they are not yet 50 years old.

Also, there is no such "100 year" rule for antiques.

I wouldn't get an El Monte. From what I know from a collectors standpoint it's Pasadena then Irwindale.

There are no Irwindale 44 Auto Mags. Irwindale was way after the complete Auto Mag collapse.

                        In order of production.

                        Pasadena
                        North Hollywood
                        El Monte
                        Covina
                        Sturgis, SD (Galena parts guns)

There is nothing wrong with an El Monte gun and that is where most of them were made. I have owned all of them at one time or another. 44AMP, 41JMP, 41AMP, 357AMP, 30LMP.

                        Tony

Their reputation is not all that enviable. They pretty much need full-power ammo to work the action. No mouse fart practice loads in that piece. And rumor has it they need to be almost squeaky clean. But you get a magnificent piece of engineering if you pay attention to details, and they will handle about anything that comes your way in the field.
