This is true. Nobody is going to care what you're running, just as long as you're not causing a hindrance towards others in the class.

    That said.......

If you're running a long stick on your gun, like a 33rd mag on a Glock, then it's obviously going to stand out since everyone. IMO, if you use a mag like that then you're just showing off, and it looks ridiculous. It's one thing to say that's the setup you would use for HD, thus you want to train with it out in the class. But for the drills that you will be doing, it's not ideal and would actually cause you more grief in the long run.

I run the +2 mag extensions on my G19 15rd pre-ban mags. Not for the extra 2 rounds (waste ammo faster), but because it's easier to load & unload from the gun due to the extension, and because my pinky rests on it perfectly.

I've attended a few classes where I've brought around 10 mags for the same gun. But that's mainly to have backups in case some fail. I usually carry 3-5 on my hip during a class, depending on the mag pouch I decide to wear that day.

Yes, having higher capacity mags and more mags on you will save you from reloading often on the line. But when you do need to reload, there's a lot to feed.

When I was at Gunsite taking their 1911 Centennial class, I carried a double mag carrier and extra mags in a dump pouch (actually an electrician's pouch from Lowes). It made stowing partial mags easier during tactical reloads, but I'll tell you take carrying 10 8rd .45ACP mags on your belt gets heavy by the end of the day.

Use the mags you have, just have plenty of them.

Most classes I've attended have you reloading between 6-8 rounds. using larger capacity mags only mean you be doing more tactical mag changes than speed changes.
The problem with using mixed capacity magazines is not ever knowing how many rounds you have left in the mag.

One thing I've learned is that it is a good idea to bring double the number of magazines they recommend...if they say 1 in the gun and 4 on the belt, I'd bring at least 10. I attended a class where another student brought 20 17rd mags for his G17
Hey now, I use extended mags all the time : )

Granted, they are 17's with a +2 baseplate and 1 in the chamber.

+1 ... even if you travel out of state, where you can conceivably have higher caps. Train with whatever you're going to have if/when you do something with your gun other than train.

Is it legal to buy hi cap rebuild kit mags and leave them disassembled in Ca but when going to frontsite or out of state to assemble them when you get there as long as you disassemble them before returning to Ca. just wondering I do not own any hi cap mags.

It is generally a good practice to holster a full gun. So if you are doing change to a full magazine before you reholster, generally mag capacity is not an issue. The revolver folks usually have 5 or 6 rounds. The 1911 guys usually have 7 or 8 rounds.

Based on question 4 in this memo, I am not so sure it is that cut and dry.

Parts are parts, not a magazine. DOJ doesn't want to admit it in writing.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!
