    python box question????

Hello. I have a stainless python, dated approx 1982. It was bought on consignment, and the original box/case was not provided. I would like to obtain an original box or case, but am uncertain on what would be correct. Should this have a styrofoam and "woodgrained" cardboard box, or would the blue plastic case be correct (like my anaconda)?? Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

I made a box for my python. First step, cut a hole in the box...

I know, I know ... I couldn't help it. Unfortunately, I'm of no use in actually helping out here. Good luck though. Love both of those guns!!!

My guess and its only a guess, is a woodgrain box with sytrofoam insert based upon some of my Colt 1911's of the same vintage. My only Python which has a box is an earlier blued 4" and it's woodgrain cardboard with cardboard insert.

You may need to head over to a Colt forum for a definitive answer but maybe a member here will have a similar one with an original box and can answer your question.

There is a dealer on GunsAmerica that sells Colt boxes. I bought one a while back (sent him a check & received the box a week later). I just checked his link and the prices are going up as fast as the prices for Pythons & Diamondbacks. The box I got looks brand new (never had a gun in it) and includes the paperwork. The end tab labels he sells separately (I didn't buy one).
