Check out post #3 in the comments thread:You obviously haven't been bitten by the 1911 bug yet
As outlined with the fine specimen above these pieces have been hand built, production numbers are low, no mass produced assembly line stuff. For those interested in further reading this is a great write up for many production, semi-custom, custom 1911's. I've been following this guy on glocktalk for a long time and and love his reviews.

With regards to the OP, dan wessons price hike a few yrs ago removed them from best bang for your buck category. I've been a big DW fan and got my CBOB back in 08/09. I just added the Valor to the collection recently but I wouldn't pay 1800 for CBOB today. Once you're up to that range you might as well spend a little more for the Brown KC.

"Clearly you spend way too much time in darkened rooms in front of your computer. Go outside once in a while and breathe before your brain starts to rot from all that stagnation and cognitive dysfunction. You couldn't get a clue during clue mating season in a field of clues if you dipped your body in musk and did the clue mating dance. Leave me alone with all of this nonsense and go shoot them for yourself."Comment

Another thing to consider but I've read is that all the Dan Wesson 1911's are made with the forged frames which also may have contributed to the price hike. Can anyone verify that the current production for CA. Point Man 7 and CBOB come with forged frames now?Comment

Forged now, but that price hike is still pretty dramatic.WTS all BNIB: Colt S70 Repro, HK45c, Gen4 G19Comment

Not sure of all the exact facts behind the DW price hike. But I think that it's more accurate to say that they're now priced more in line with the level of quality and hand-finishing that they have. Before the hike, DW was the "quiet" little steal of a deal. Now, less so. Granted, you'd have to spend a good one to two more thousand to get a Wilson or EB.Comment

You can get them from budsgunshop.com for $1488 WHEN they have them in stock.
I have a 2010 DW Pointman Seven and I love that gun. I shoot my custom more often, but that gun gets its fair trigger time. Easy to clean, great customer service and lots of semi-custom parts and fitment from the factory. One of the tightest factory lockups I've ever seen on a 1911. My PM7 has been nothing but flawless.Last edited by bombadillo; 10-27-2011, 8:50 AM.Comment

I've heard the DW guns referred to as "semi-custom" and I don't follow. I have a DW PM-7 in 10MM and I do love that gun. It is worth $1800 + fees + taxes - to me.... no. It was worth $1,100 when I bought it 2 years ago. Now, I would either go truely custom or the Springfield line with the life time warranty.Comment

I agree that with the current price of DW heading up there with EB and LB, it might be better these days to get a TRP and when even the tiniest thing isn't up to par, call SA and get it taken care of. Depending on your skill level, the TRP will most likely be as noticably accurate as a DW. I was thinking about picking one up (and possibly selling my mil-spec to get most of the funds for itI've heard the DW guns referred to as "semi-custom" and I don't follow. ). We will see if I do this or just save up and have two nice 1911s.

Yeah, I'm not too far off from robert101. I have my 2010 PM7 and there is no way I'd pay $1800 or more for either mine or the CBOB by any means. I'd go with a TRP Operator, Colt SSE with rail, or a handful of others. While I LOVE my DW, I don't think they're worth 1800 by any stretch of the imagination. You're getting up into Wilson Combat territory or a used Nighthawk Custom. Maybe even a Baer if you're lucky enough to find one for cheap.Comment

Beautiful Colt!!! wow!
I got my PM-7 off Gunbroker for less than $900 earlier this year.
FYI - A CBOB was just sold on the marketplace here for $1400, even at that price, it's too rich for my blood.
The CBOB & PM-7, I personally wouldn't pay more than $1k for, but that's just me. Like everyone else said in this thread, at $1500, $1800, one should do some research and look at some of the other brands too, and decide if the DW is worth it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my DW, I just wouldn't pay close to $2k for one.Comment

More than anything else, it is what the market will bear. And like everything else, there are people who would gladly pay the price.
Whether the price for a particular brand and model is criminally high or not, is debatable.Comment

I too am in the market for a CBOB. It seems from the website the Fusions are even a bit higher! Shopping for a 1911 is involved!Citizen.Comment

No
Back in the 1980's I bought a DW 22 pack. I've only switched barrels a few times just to "know how" and have continued to shoot the 4inch for almost 3 decades now and I'm guessing a little more than 10k rounds. Clearly I enjoy shooting that gun and continue to do so today. It still even looks great. That said I just got my first 1911 this year, went cheap with the RIA tactical 45 and have no regrets. I couldn't have imagined spending $1800 on one and I had a similar chance through my local shop to do so.
I'd rather have a lower priced gun now and the accessories to enjoy it (leather, magazines, plenty of ammo).
I was at Turner's yesterday and they had a brand new one sitting right there in the cabinet. Man, I've been itching to get this fine gun for a long time but....the price tag, ugh! $1800 otd!! At that price level what other kinds of 1911's should I be looking at? Are there any that are better, and why?Comment

So I have the PM7 and the CBOB and paid full price for both and they have been worth every penny to me. Reliable 100% out of the box and the craftsmanship supreme. Check out the Dan Wesson forum on 1911forum.com and see others who are just as pleased. Bought the 1/2 rail TRP from Springfield and just as pleased but at about the same cost. Get what you pay for I suppose.Clinging to my guns and religionComment
