I have seen mixed reviews of the Desert Eagles. I have been interested in them due to them being on my CS gun list. I have it stuck in my head to pick up ALL of the guns on the CS gun list. That might not happen due to some of them being illegal to own/posses in CA but I still have them on the list.

SOME web pages said that they shot GREAT and their accuracy was awesome due to their 6.xx inch barrels and how the barrel was stationary etc.

A FEW sites I had seen had some members talking down on them due to too many failures to be allowed for military use etc.

I have been looking for a replacement 44 mag since I sold my Colt Kodiak a few months ago. I walked into Bright Spot Pawn to pick up my 40 cal Sig Equinox the other day and low and behold they had a Deagle in 44 mag. Needless to say I will be breaking it out of jail next Monday. I am curious what to expect from this gun. Hey at 8+1 shots in the gun I am NOT complaining. That beats any 44 mag revolver that I have seen out there. I also found factory mags for $33.99 at CDNN so I have a couple more of them now. I like the idea of buying different barrels and having different calibers and I intend to pick up the .357 and .50 AE one day. Finally, once I get it I will be getting a comp installed and then having the gun refinished. I am sick of this CA crap so instead of all black I am gonna get it in OD green and black two toned.

If you don't reload expect to pay a lot for full power ammo. If you want, converting to. 50 is a barrel and magazine swap.

I've never shot one, but I've handled a few at shops and whatnot. They are cool looking guns, but most people have an issue with the grip (myself included.) They're really, really big. I don't claim to have large hands, but of the Desert Eagles I've handled, I couldn't maintain a proper grip on any of them.

They often have a reputation for being finicky with ammo, but that's just because they have stiff recoil springs in them and are designed for full power ammo.

I say if you want one, and have the money for it. Get it and have fun. Don't worry about what all the nay-sayers tell you.

Yep - shot my bother's .50 DE. Unmanageably large, ungainly, unreliable and that particular copy threw the brass directly into your forehead. (bruised the bridge of my nose and cut my bro's forehead and left a nasty lump)

I had one till I sold it last year....got good price for it so I could not refuse the offer...I had the .44mag and the .50 conversion for it...the .50 ran fine but when shooting the .44mag on all types and brands of ammo it would jam or stove pipe....tried diffrent mags and the internal parts of the gun where flawless. Id sugges only get it if your going to shoot .50AE. Most indoor ranges won't allow it though.

I own a 24k gold one that I won in a poker game. I have had it for about 7 years. Shot a magazine out of it and it just sits in my safe. I have not taken it out of my safe since!
It's a great conversation pice that's really about it....

i have shot one in .44 mag. the gun is prone to stove piping if you limp wrist it at all, the grip feels like a 2x4, its loud as hell especially in indoor ranges, and its expensive to feed.

that being said it is allot of fun to shoot

I will not have the gun for about a week or so but I have been collecting information and I have heard some really recently positive things about them. My model is a XIX and YES, the TWIN recoil rods are STIFF. I have to cock it back by the safety levers (thank gawd it is ambi!) and yes, that grip DOES feel big. I am hoping that the hogue grooved rubber grips will give it a better feel. I actually want to get a .50 barrel for it now but I will wait till after christmas cause I still gotta get my ptr-91.

If anyone has wondered about the comps, here is a photo. I am really liking this and the fact that it was purchased for $850 makes me feel like I got a GREAT deal. I was at an AZ gun show recently and they had TWO of these, one was beat to hell and they were asking $1300. The other one was asking $1200 and it was coroded or the springs had some white powder all over them. I lucked out and found someone selling a factory mag for $30.00 Still in box/plastic. Another thing I have seen is that some people have a problem with you calling them Deagles. They equate that to the kids calling their trucks "Rolleys" or "Cannies" or something like that. I hope I did not offend anyone by doing that but on the other hand, I never knew about this gun until I was on a clan playing Counter Strike. I thought it was cool then and I will ALWAYS call it my Deagle. And when I get a Baby Eagle I will call that my Beagle! Anyways, thanks again for the input. Maybe when I get the final product back I will post a better photo but not on this thread, I will stick it on one of those other handgun glamour picz threads...

The Desert Eagle is not the most practical gun. However its a badass gun. Its heavy, obnoxious, and Magnum awesome. Is it at the top of calgunners list, No. Is it something cool for the collection, yes. As long as its in decent shape you got a good deal at $850. Its a pistol that has the ability to shoot multiple rounds of 357, 44, or 50 magnums. What else does that besides revolvers. The coonan? No its not for everybody but yes its cool. Ammo is costly in the 50 cal. Hey it kicks like a beast because it is a beast. Props to the gold DE won in a poker game. As I said, to me, they are supposed to be a little obnoxious.

Saw someone shoot one at the range, I am pretty sure it was .50 AE because the sound was similar to SW500 round.
