Ruger SR1911 availability??

Anyone know of a shop that has one that will ship to CA for SSE? Finding one seems to be next to impossible.

I got so used to seeing "will not ship to CA" on GB that I pretty much gave up on them. I know an individual outside of CA can send a roster gun to an FFL without having to use an FFL on the sending side (I called the DOJ about this, as some FFLs will only accept shipment from another FFL out of paranoia and or ignorance), but I'm not sure if an individual can send a non-roster gun to a CA FFL for the SSE conversion. Have to look into that.

An individual can send a Off Roster Pistol to a 07FFL and have the work done to it. It is up to the 07FFL to accept it from an individual, I know Valkyrie Arms does that. All you need is a copy of the senders ID, a bill of sale would be nice too.

So that was quick. Jumped over to GB to view the SR1911s. Pinged a seller explaining the situation and to see if they'd ship here.

Would actually prefer an individual (vs FFL) to buy and send to CA FFL (as so many out of state FFLs wont ship to CA even with a rostered gun, yet alone one off roster) as they don't usually have the same "issues".

Sent and email and was expecting to hear back later today/tomorrow at the earliest considering it's Sunday morning. Two minutes later, literally, the reply came back..."If its not on the list I am not willing to do it. Sorry."

I understand following the rules, it's the part about not fully understanding the rules/laws/regulations and "interpreting" between the lines that can be frustrating.

My advice...find a seller that does not specifically say they will not ship to CA.

Then:

Bid and win the gun, send them your FFL info and ask how they want payment.

That's what I do and I don't have problems...why get into "explaining the situation here"?

H#ll, half the folks on CalGuns don't understand or can't agree on how the roster works...why burden some poor out of state seller with all that minutia?

There are a couple of places that can get the SR1911 and sell it to you with the single shot conversion.

They are extremely hard to get anywhere. The prices on GB are indicative of that, not worth paying close to or more than msrp. Almost any gun shop "can get" one for you, but you are likely facing up to a year delay, plus it must be paid for in full to get on the list.

I'm in the firearm industry and allow me to explain how a firearm retailer gets an SR1911.

We beg our salesperson for one. IF the salesperson wins the lottery (if they get 10 guns, all the sales staff put their name in a hat and they pull 10 names) and I'm high on the list, I get the gun.

So, with an item that rare - the SR1911 has to sell at $700-750 to make it worth my while. There is no reason to do substantial discounting.

Makes perfect sense. I have, however, seen certain Davidson's dealers offering the guns at around 600, albeit on an "allocated" basis.
