    Buying from Bud's?

    n00B here.

I've been thinking about buying a Kahr CW9093 which is on the Roster.
    Bud's has it for $379. ( http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/faq.php )
So me being a know nothing I need some guidance.

How does this work me being in Socal, L.A. County to be exact.
Can I buy it online out of state or do I have to buy one here in CA?
Am I totally off base here?

    Thanks ahead to all.

You can buy it on Bud's and provide them with your local FFL's license via fax and they'll ship it to your local FFL for the transfer. Check with your local FFL for fees and if they collect sales tax on the purchase. Bud's also has a list of FFL's where they already have the their license on file so you don't have to have your FFL fax it to them. Just select that FFL and pay for the gun and they'll ship it to the FFL you've selected. Always check with the FFL you select to see if they would accept a gun from Bud's and see how much they will charge you.

One big debate is about collecting sales tax. Some FFL's collect it for the state and others leave it for you to declare with the state when it comes time to do your state income tax return. Again best to check with your local FFL you chose to do the transfer with.

      What he said.

Check the list of FFL's that Bud's already has contact with, find one near you. That should save a bit of hassle.

Otherwise, make a few calls, search for the lowest transfer fee and weather they collect sales tax or not. IF the only FFL's you can find have high transfer fee AND collect taxes, you might as well buy the gun from a local ffl who sells it cheapest.

Buying from Bud's is good to go, but finding an FFL to do a 'reasonably' priced transfer maybe be the challenge. Some prices (at least for Norcal) are crazy, basically eating up any cost savings through online deals.

Yeah I would shop around for FFLs first and see who will do it for cheapest

Straightline in Anaheim & OC Armory in Laguna Hills will both do FFL Transfers for $70 OTD last time I checked.

Have you checked gungenie? I have found that in many many cases, the gungenie out-the-door price to a local store isn't really much higher than Bud's+Transfer+dros+etc...

Also Davidson's Gun Genie give you no hassle lifetime warranty on guns purchased through them. You pay sales tax but you don't pay for out of state transfer fees like you do from ordering from another vendor like Bud's or Gunbroker and etc.

If the gun's sales tax is equal to the out of state transfer fee (Guns $550 and under = about $50 sales tax ) - I typically go with Davidson's gun genie for two reasons 1) it supports the local FFL because they are the ones actually making the sale 2) you get the lifetime warranty.

Checking for retailer OTD pricing in my local 50 mile radius using Davidsons Gun Genie. The cheapest was $418.00. If I was to buy it in my home town, it would be $38.00 more. But with the price of gas and time, driving 90 miles twice. The cost of gas would eat the savings.

Now purchasing the same firearm from Bud's would be, $371.00 + Tax + Fees/Dros. That same firearm sent to the store in my hometown that I can purchase it for $456.00 out the door would cost approx $500.00, which is $44.00 MORE than getting it from my local gun store. I used 8% for sales tax and $100 for transfer and DROS fees.

Bottom line is that I have found that rifle and shotgun purchases, Buds usually is the cheaper alternative. But if you can build a good relationship with a local gun store of your choice, you may get close to a Bud's price. I have a great relationship with a gun store that I have purchased all but two firearms from. They usually get within $50.00 or so dollars for a out the door price of a firearm purchased from Bud's and transferred at the same location, for me I'll spend my money at my local store. YMMV. Good luck.

I agree. My local guys can get within 10% on OTD which is close enough to buy from them and keep them around.

Also, it is usually better to be patient and find just the gun you want (and even non roster) used.

Except for Kahrs..........I think you want the warranty, and it is not transferable.

If you can make the trip to Riverside, Firepower Depot does transfers (yes out of state, not PPT, DROS fee included) for 35$ flat. Nothing else tacked on.

+1 for Tom and Firepower Depot. His transfers really are just $35 for out of state.

Wow - that's a great price on transfers. I was in a local shop last week that had a sign up that said transfers were $25 DROS + $50 "Shop Fee" + Sales Tax.
