Cleaning question

Since only have one pistol right now, I depend my life on it.

This. Plus I have many historic/C&R guns that really deserve/need more care.

No such thing. Only if you are cleaning incorrectly, or with too strong a solvent. Some guys like em clean and pristine, others like em dirty.
I find that fondling cleaning my gun(s) is a great way for me to get my fix without taking time out to the range

I have to do this as well. I love my guns, and I love handling them. Sometimes I enjoy the cleaning more than the range time.

I clean my new guns (yeah, like I buy more than one every couple of years) first. New guns often have gunky preservative treatments and/or manufacturing oils/stuff (very technical) that aren't the best thing to have in there when firing. However, I don't think it will actually harm a gun much to fire with that stuff in there. I've seen guys do it, when they can't wait to fire their new baby.

I always clean my new guns. Some need more love than others.

Why am I not surprised that's coming from an Heckler & Koch? Still my favorite brand.
