I really don't think it matters either way.

It just depends on how you take care of your stuff generally.

I like cleaning my guns after I use them.

I like brushing the sweat mark off my horse after I ride him.

If you view it as a chore, don't do it as often

I too clean my guns after each use. I was taught at an early age to do so by my father and still do so. It is great therapy and sometimes it prevents the urge to by another gun. Well sometimes it does..

I usually do it, except for .22's. But I'm admittedly anal about it.

I try to clean my guns after each outing. You wont hurt the gun by doing this, but you will get a chance to check for any wear or damage that may have happened after shooting.

When I clean it, I lube it. I wipe with oil, but lube contact points with TW25b.

If I'm going to the range 2-3 times a month should I clean my gun after each use? I figure between 200-400 rounds a month. I always clean it after each use but I'm wondering if that's too much.

I clean all my guns after shooting, with the exception of the extractor.

I clean my new guns (yeah, like I buy more than one every couple of years) first. New guns often have gunky preservative treatments and/or manufacturing oils/stuff (very technical) that aren't the best thing to have in there when firing. However, I don't think it will actually harm a gun much to fire with that stuff in there. I've seen guys do it, when they can't wait to fire their new baby.

50,000 in 8 months! 252 total days of testing, 96 trips to the range, average 520.8 rounds per trip...The pistol was only cleaned seven times during the entire test, going 10,181 rounds between cleanings at one point.

Oil goes on my guns every time I shoot them. When they are cleaned, they get TW25b grease on all the rails and friction surfaces.

Cleaning is optional, lubrication is not.*


*Some guns need more lube than others. My primary range gun is a Beretta 92 Elite that hasn't been cleaned beyond a quick wipe down in well over 1000 rounds, but it gets a couple drops of break free on the locking lugs every time it hits the range. The self lubrication properties of polymer frames and some finishes will cut you a little more slack, but a few drops of oil is a cheap price to pay for flawless function.
